It’s a potential relegation six pointer at the Pirelli Stadium, as 20th placed Burton take on 24th placed Peterborough.

With five points separating the teams, Peterborough will be desperate to secure their third win of the season, while Burton will be looking to create some daylight between them and the teams languishing in the relegation zone. With plenty at stake for both sides, this should be a really compelling encounter.

Burton Double Chance

It was a really satisfying win for Burton last week, they produced a fine display to dismantle a highly functional Bolton side 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Funnily enough, Bolton were sitting first in the XG table before Saturday’s match, which was a sobering afternoon for them. There’s definitely an element of discretionary logic involved with this selection, Burton should be buoyed by a morale boosting win against very credible opposition, and this should give them real confidence ahead of this match.

Prior to their win against Bolton, Burton secured a 1-1 draw away to Doncaster, and a 1-0 away win to Cardiff. The vibes are good for the Brewers at present, they are finding a way to grind out results against highly skilled opposition, and this bodes very well for their quest to avoid relegation and provide stability.

It’s been a sorry tale for Peterborough in the league so far this season, with just seven points on the board from 11 games. Their away form makes for slightly worse reading, registering just one win, and three points from six games, a solitary 1-0 win away to Plymouth their only welcome relief.

With Burton now unbeaten in their last three league matches, in addition to Peterborough losing their last two league matches, getting on the side of Burton feels like a strong play here.

📈 Burton v Peterborough Form & Stats

Peterborough have only managed to avoid defeat in just three league matches this season, they were given some brief optimism after consecutive league wins against Wycombe and Plymouth in mid September, but that optimism has been quickly squashed by consecutive defeats to Lincoln and Bolton.

While Peterborough’s fantastic model of plucking gems from non-league and moulding them into the superstars of tomorrow often pays dividends, this is one of the rare seasons where they are really struggling at this level. Rather worryingly, they are bookies favourites for relegation.

Peterborough’s xG data provides a glimmer of hope, they are statistically 22nd in the league for xG, a slight improvement on their 24th position in the league. A key source of concern for Peterborough will be their fallibility on the road, scoring just five goals and conceding a hefty 12 in just six matches.

Burton’s form over the course of the season certainly doesn’t make for great reading, they’ve also struggled in home matches, managing just seven points from six games, sitting 22nd in the home table.

However, given Burton’s prolific and clinical display against Bolton, intertwined with credible recent results against Cardiff and Doncaster, where they avoided defeat in both, there’s real room for optimism. Burton will fancy their chances of at least securing a point against the Posh here.
