When Omarion Hampton was drafted 22nd overall in this year’s NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers there was a lot of anticipation that the rookie could have a massive year. Last season in the Chargers first season under head coach Jim Harbaugh the team was run-heavy, and the expectation was that would happen again this year. However, through the first two weeks, it didn’t.
Hampton didn’t score in the first two weeks and only put up a combined 72 yards on the ground. Then last week we saw Harbaugh go back to leaning on the run and Hampton thrived, with 70 yards and a touchdown.
Most importantly with regards to Hampton covering his rushing yard line this Sunday, Hampton had 19 carries last week, his season high, but also the second time he’s had 15+ carries. He’s a bellcow for the Chargers and they seem intent on feeding the former North Carolina man the ball.
Even better news for us, the Giants are allowing an average of 153.3 rushing yards per game. That’s the second highest in the NFL, meaning that we should be confident that Hampton can have another big Sunday. He has the volume and he faces a defense with a soft underbelly against the run.
