Crystal Palace v Chelsea
📅
Kick Off: Saturday 4th January at 15:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
Before a couple of stumbles during the festive season, Chelsea were boasting the second spot in the Premier League and playing their best football in years, but recent outings have certainly highlighted some cracks in their plans for a title charge.
Crystal Palace fans will be more than happy with the results they secured in the month of December, with 11 points from a possible 18, drawing with Man City and only losing to Arsenal (twice – once in the league and once in the EFL Cup quarter final). This London derby offers crucial points at both end of the table so we should be in for an action-packed outing.
⭐ Crystal Palace v Chelsea Best Bet
Crystal Palace are an underrated team for shots fired and together both teams are likely to attempt a significant number of efforts on goal. Palace average 14.20 shots in each Premier League contest this season and have players such as Eberechi Eze, who has one of the highest rate of shots per 90 min the entire league, plus the likes of Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Phiippe Mateta who have both been firing well recently.
Chelsea average 15.80 shots per game, the fourth most of any team. We know what to expect from each side here so taking 29 or more match shots looks well within reach, in what should be a decent offensive game.
🟢 Crystal Palace v Chelsea #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
Nicolas Jackson has been in great form for Chelsea this season, scoring 9 goals in 18 Premier League games so far.
Only Spurs and Liverpool have scored more goals than Chelsea this season (38) and they pack a serious punch in front of goal, the Blues scored in both halves in 5 straight EPL games before their recent tricky run of fixtures.
Will Hughes has obtained the most cards for Palace this season (7) and ranks the joint most for anyone in this category in the entire league, Chelsea have some nimble midfielders who Hughes may struggle to keep tabs on.
👕 Crystal Palace v Chelsea Predicted XI
🔍 Crystal Palace v Chelsea Players to Watch
🟣 Eberechi Eze
The England international averages 3.50 shots per 90 mins which is the 5th highest rate of any player in the Premier League. He is Palace’s key player and recently scored against Southampton so he should be full of confidence here. He fired 6 shots in the previous game and 4 v Bournemouth too, Chelsea will leave spaces to exploit and Eze should benefit from that.
🟣 Will Hughes
He has racked up the most cards of any player in the Palace squad in the Premier League (7) and also has a very high foul rate of exactly 2 per 90 mins. The Eagles rely on him to do the dirty work and against a team of the technical qualities of Chelsea it’s very difficult to see him playing a clean game.
Cole Palmer is one of the most fouled players in the Premier League (2.20 per 90), taking him to commit 2 or more fouls here looks like a generous price and we only need him to effectively match his seasonal average so far.
🔵 Cole Palmer
Palmer blanked against Ipswich last time out which was a rarity, but Cole Palmer is very capable of bouncing back at Selhurst Park. He has weighed in with 12 goals and 6 assists this season so taking him in this combined market can be very profitable.
Palmer has been frustrated by two very defensive and low block sides recently in Everton and Ipswich. This Palace team are not as strong defensively so he should get more opportunities to seriously impact matters. Palmer has still scored or assisted in 4 of his last 6 Premier League games so can rebound here
