Nicolas Jackson to have 1+ Shots on Target

Jackson has enjoyed a solid season for Chelsea, registering 15 goal contributions across his 29 appearances in the Premier League (10 goals, five assists). He’s had 35 shots on target across these appearances (1.43 per 90).

Jackson scored in the initial meeting between these sides at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners. The Blues had 17 shots in that game with seven of these efforts finding the target.

Jackson had two shots on target in his most recent Premier League appearance against Liverpool and has generally found himself amongst the goals recently - notching a brace against Djurgarden in the Conference League first leg, as well as scoring against Everton to give Chelsea a crucial three points in their battle for Champions League qualification.

Bruno Guimaraes to be Fouled 2+ Times

Bruno Guimaraes has been fouled eight times across the two meetings between these sides in the EFL Cup and the Premier League. He was hauled down on five occasions in the league meeting, with Chelsea committing 13 fouls in total.

Guimaraes was also fouled three times off the bench in the cup clash, as Newcastle ran out 2-0 winners. Guimaraes was only on the pitch for 23 minutes on this occasion which highlights how strong the Brazilian is when it comes to winning fouls, especially against a side as aggressive as Chelsea in the middle of the park.

Guimaraes has won 100 fouls across his 35 appearances in the Premier League this season (2.99 per 90) - more than any other player in the top flight.

Over 2.5 Chelsea Cards

This should be quite an intense affair between two direct rivals vying for a spot in the Champions League next season. There were nine cards produced in the initial league meeting between these sides at Stamford Bridge, six of these were shown to Chelsea.

This reflects a much larger pattern which has stalked Chelsea all season. No side has picked up more yellow cards than the Blues in the Premier League this season (94 -2.68 per game). This is largely due to the youthful nature of the squad which can make it difficult for Chelsea to manage games and see them pick up cards out of frustration, as their record across the season shows.

We should see a continuation of that aggressive nature here against a Newcastle side that have drawn 2+ cards from their opponents in four of their last five Premier League matches. We’re looking for a marginal increase in these numbers but the context here supports that, a win for either side would surely guarantee them a spot in the Champions League next season, so there is likely to be quite a bit of fight from both.

Newcastle GK to make 3+ Saves

Chelsea drew five saves from Nick Pope in the initial league meeting between these sides and also tested the Newcastle keeper on four occasions in their cup defeat against the Magpies.

Chelsea have posted really strong attacking numbers this season despite the criticism that Enzo Maresca has faced from Chelsea fans regarding the occasional lack of intensity in Chelsea’s play, the Blues are averaging 6.0 shots on target per game in the Premier League this season, only Liverpool are finding the target more frequently (6.2).

Nick Pope is being forced into making 3.08 saves per 90 in the Premier League this season and may find himself called into action more often than usual given the context surrounding this game and the fact that Newcastle could be without Fabian Schar and Lewis Hall - both crucial players in the Newcastle backline.

Cole Palmer to Score or Assist

Cole Palmer finally broke his goalscoring curse against Liverpool in his most recent Premier League appearance. He was sensational in the game with his late penalty ending a run of 18 games without a goal.

His season numbers are still really promising despite this barren run, he’s registered 23 goal contributions across his 34 Premier League appearances this season (15 goals, eight assists).

Palmer scored in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and has returned to form at the right time to help Chelsea in their bid to secure Champions League football next season.

Over 2.5 Goals

The initial league meeting between these sides produced three goals as Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners. Goals should really impact the gamestate with a loss unimaginable for both sides as they bid to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Newcastle have seen over 2.5 goals in four of their last five games in the Premier League, the exception coming last time out against Brighton which arguably should have produced over 2.5 goals, with a cumulative xG of 2.56 produced in the game.

Chelsea have seen over 2.5 goals in three of their last five games across all competitions. They enter this game with better form than Newcastle and the advantage of having beaten them already in the league this season. Six of the last seven head-to-head meetings between these sides have seen BTTS land, with three of these producing over 2.5 goals.

Kieran Trippier to be Shown a Card

Trippier has come back into the side as a right back following the injury to Lewis Hall, which has also seen Tino Livramento move over to left back. Trippier has only picked up one yellow card in the Premier League this season but this isn’t totally reflective of his aggressive nature, especially in big games.

He’s averaging 1.12 fouls committed per 90 in the Premier League this season and will line up against Noni Madueke who has been shifted over to the left wing in recent weeks. Madueke is averaging 1.18 fouls won per 90 in the Premier League this season and can test Trippier regularly with his excellent 1v1 ability.

Tripper also committed three fouls in Newcastle's last home match against Ipswich. He didn't play the last time the sides met in the EFL Cup, but Emile Krafth, who filled in at right-back on that day, committed two fouls against the Blues and was regularly tested.
