The Argentines got off to a positive start against Canada, winning 2-0 while remaining relatively untroubled and barely stepping out of third gear, and missing a host of chances.
The Chileans will be frustrated with an opening day blank against Peru and if they lose here, they go into the final match day with a must-win game against the Canadians to have any chance of progressing. Even with a loss here, they’ll be mindful of keeping the scoreline respectable, as goal difference could have a huge impact on the final day with only the top two in the group getting through to the knockouts.
Chile v Argentina Best Bets
➡️ Argentina (-2) corner handicap @ 2.1 on bet365
Looking at a recent ten-game sample, Argentina average 5.9 corners earned per game, compared to Chile’s 4.2. The Chileans conceded 3.3 per game compared to 1.8 for Argentina. They’ve only won the corner battle in two of their last six games.
Argentina have won the most corners in 8 of their last ten and only lost the corner count once in that time and have had at least 2 more corners than their opposition on seven of those occasions.
Although Chile need the 3 points more than the Argentines at this stage, they will be extremely wary of the threat that the Argentines pose and will look to play on the counter. The sheer number of attacks that Chile are likely to face on both flanks should lead to a healthy corner count for the Argentines and most of the action on that side of the pitch. Our pick would be Argentina -2 Corner Handicap at 2.1 with Bet365. It should be noted that if Argentina finish on just 2 more corners than Chile, the market will be settled as a tie and therefore lost, however, we feel that they should comfortably exceed this line with the underlying data and what we should expect from this matchup.

📊 Chile Form and Stats
Although Chile drew their opening game 0-0 with Peru, they probably did enough to just about win the game, even though they were far from scintillating. In their last warm-up game before the tournament, they were impressive against Paraguay, scoring three goals without reply.
In March they also came out of a European road trip rather well, with just a narrow 3-2 defeat to France and a 3-0 win away to an Albanian side who have surprised many at this Euros so far.
They currently sit in eighth place in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, having picked up just one win from their six games so far. It should be noted, however, that these games all came before the appointment of Ricardo Gareca in January, and since then their only defeat in four games came to that very strong French side.
Gareca mentioned after the game that he wasn’t concerned with their opening-day draw and simply put it down to a bad day at the office and a combination of poor passing and it was a fairly even game against an awkward opponent. They will certainly have to raise their game against this Argentina side to have any chance of securing at least a point.
📊 Argentina Form and Stats
Argentina are still the undoubted favourites in this competition, extending their run of just four defeats in 50 games with a victory against Canada. The 2-0 scoreline rather flattered Canada, with Argentina creating an xG output of 3.38, with 19 attempts at goal and 10 shots on target. This was Argentina’s sixth straight win and they’ll be confident of making it seven against Chile. They sit top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with five wins and just a solitary defeat to Uruguay.
Even with a whole host of chances missed, They have still scored 13 goals in their last five games and their sheer range of attacking options will make this a tough task for Chile.
On the other side of the pitch, the Argentines have conceded just twice in their last six games, with both goals coming somewhat as consolations in a 4-1 victory over Guatemala and a 3-1 victory over Costa Rica.
⚔️ Chile v Argentina Head-to-Head
There is a huge history between the two sides with 95 meetings since 1910. Chile have won only eight of those matches and drawn 25, with Argentina winning the other 62 encounters. Although Chile didn’t win the encounters in 90 minutes in 2015 and 2016, they were victorious on penalties against the Argentines in successive years en route to historic back-to-back Copa America titles. Their last encounter was a 2-1 victory to Argentina in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match.
