FIFA Club World Cup

Group A

Palmeiras to Win group A

  • Palmerias are the most fancied non-European side to win the Club World Cup.

  • The European representative in Group A is Porto who have had an underwhelming season, finishing third in Liga Portugal and exiting the Europa League before the Round of 16.

  • Palmerias topped their Copa Libertadores group, winning all six of their matches.

  • The Brazilian side’s main star is Estevao, who registered 25 goal contributions across 45 appearances in all competitions last season.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group B

PSG to Win Group B

  • PSG recently won the Champions League, beating Inter 5-0 in the final.

  • Their main challenger in this group will be Atletico Madrid, who could struggle to deal with the firepower of this PSG side.

  • PSG have prepared superbly for this tournament, winning each of their last five matches - two of which involved finals, Luis Enrique’s side won both games to nil.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group C

Bayern Munich to Win Group C

  • Bayern Munich are Bundesliga Champions and find themselves in a group with Boca Juniors, Benfica and Auckland.

  • Bayern Munich have already got the better of Benfica in the Champions League this season and are an attacking side that can navigate themselves through the group stages without any real issues.

  • Bayern Munich enter this tournament having lost just one of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group D

Chelsea to Win Group D

  • Chelsea have been drawn into a group without any other European sides, making them natural favourites to top the group.

  • Enzo Maresca’s side ended the season strongly, winning the Conference League and finishing fourth in the Premier League, to secure a spot in the Champions League next term.

  • Chelsea will have real depth for this tournament with players returning from loan eligible to play, and the potential for some summer signings to also be part of the squad.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group E

Inter to Win Group E

  • Inter will have to recover quickly from the disappointment of losing the Champions League final to PSG, the most damning part of which was the scoreline (5-0).

  • Despite this recent disappointment, Inter are still the best side in the group having been drawn alongside Monterrey, River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds.

  • The experience of Inter should prove invaluable in the early stages of the competition and while the intensity of the campaign may catch them out in the knockout stages, the group stages should be relatively uncomplicated.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group F

Dortmund to Win Group F

  • Dortmund have recovered really well under Niko Kovac after a disastrous start to the season, which saw Nuri Sahin dismissed halfway through the campaign.

  • Dortmund reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and while they may fall short of competing against Europe’s elite in the latter stages of this tournament, they can carry their positive form in the second half of the season into this group stage.

  • Dortmund arguably have the easiest group on paper of any European side, with Fluminese, Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD making up the rest of Group F.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group G

Man City to Win Group G

  • Man City will be eager to win this competition, they failed to pick up any silverware during the regular season for the first time since Pep Guardiola took over.

  • Juventus will be their main opposition in this group and the Old Lady did get the better of City in the Champions League, however, Juventus are going through a period of upheaval with a new coach yet to be announced.

  • City are set to welcome back some of their stars that they missed during the regular season, namely Rodri who returned to the matchday squad on the final day of the Premier League season.

FIFA Club World Cup

Group H

Real Madrid to Win Group H

  • Real Madrid are strong favourites to top this group in Xabi Alonso’s first assignment with his new side. He’ll have Trent Alexander-Arnold to call upon, as well as the host of talent that already exists in the side.

  • There may be a small adaptation period for Alonso as he familiarises himself with his new surroundings, but this is unlikely to have consequence in the group stages, given the significant quality gap between Madrid and the other sides in their group.

  • The other European representative in Group H is Salzburg, who Real Madrid beat 5-1 when the sides met in the Champions League earlier in the season.
