Coventry v Huddersfield
Watch live: Sky Sports Main Event
The main footballing event on Sky this Monday sees Mark Robins’ Coventry City host a Huddersfield Town side under new management after Darren Moore replaced Neil Warnock.
The Terriers are in excellent form having finally started finding the back of the net, putting a tough start to the season behind them with victories over West Bromwich Albion and Rotherham United before a two-all draw against Stoke City, allowing Warnock to depart on a high.
They take on a Coventry side without a win since matchday two but they’ve also lost only once since then, drawing the bane of their campaign so far as they underperform against strong defensive numbers. They’ve seen a lot of changes made this summer as they recover from the losses of key performers Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres and the new men are evidently still finding their feet.
We’ve broken down the numbers to bring you two Coventry vs Huddersfield bet builders, one worth over 2/1 while the other has odds of just under 12/1.

Coventry thankful for ruthless Godden
Despite their lowly league position, Coventry are performing relatively well so far this campaign. But while they have scored in all but one of their league matches, their attempts to be more progressive in style have come with a few hiccups, with the Midlands outfit conceding 14 or more shots in five of their seven league matches and also seeing a lot of corners in their matches – they’ve won and conceded five or more corners in five of their seven league matches.
Another issue of late has been discipline, with Coventry picking up 11 cards in their last three league matches. Joel Latibeaudiere is the man setting the tone for this. The ex-Swansea City man picked up four yellow cards in his last six appearances while committing an impressive 13 fouls, including two or more in four of his seven league starts and at least one in all seven. It’s a good job he’s good with his feet – he is averaging at least 13 more passes than any of his teammates and is clearly the man entrusted to start attacks.
At the other end of the pitch, Matty Godden is having a fantastic season. At 32, there is a sense that the club should start looking to move him on but he’s taken on the challenge, outperforming Haji Wright and Ellis Simms following their transfers and enjoying the more progressive style with five goals in seven games. It’s no fluke either, Godden mustering three shots per game with 11 shots on target leading to an xG of 4.3. He has had a shot on target in six of his seven starts and two or more in four of those.
Coventry team news
Mark Robins will be forced into at least one change having seen Milan van Ewijk withdrawn in the 53rd minute of their defeat at Cardiff City. With Ben Sheaf, another player who has succumbed to a muscle problem, on the treatment table, there are two schools of thought as far as replacements go.
One is the same change that occurred during that game with Japanese midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto entering the fray and a slight change of shape, or Josh Eccles starting wing-back, a role he has become used to in recent seasons.
The other is to shift Joel Latibeaudiere from his centre-half position to right-wing-back with Bobby Thomas or Liam Kitching starting at centre-back. The latter would have implications – particularly if you plan on backing the Jamaican when it comes to passes in your Coventry v Huddersfield bet builder.
Darren hoping for Moore defensive solidity from Huddersfield
Huddersfield Town have been fine in front of goal considering early season expectations, managing at least 1xG in six of their seven league games and 0.9 in the other. Darren Moore’s new side haven’t been shot shy, managing 13 or more shots in six of their games as well as four or more shots on target in each of their last four. However, they have been caught out more than once defensively, conceding 1xG or higher in six of their seven games, keeping one clean sheet, and conceding at least four shots on target in their first five league games.
The contributions of Jack Rudoni have been important, with his all-action displays leading to him being regularly involved with the referee and in the final third. The ex-Wimbledon man has made a midfield spot his own and part of the reason is his propensity to get involved in the battle, committing an impressive 11 fouls in seven games but also being on the end of 10 fouls, drawing a foul in six appearances. At the other end, the midfield has managed 13 shots including four on target. He has had two shots in each of his last six games.
Those shooting numbers are nothing compared to Josh Koroma. Another player signed raw from London, the winger has had an up-and-down spell but was trusted by Neil Warnock because of his ability to make things happen. The 24-year-old has had 21 shots this season. He has managed two or more shots in all six starts, having three or more in five of those, a shot on target in his last five, and two or more shots on target in each of his last three.
Huddersfield team news
Darren Moore has an interesting decision to make after Neil Warnock went bold against Stoke City last time out, making four outfield changes before the second half started.
Josh Ruffels and Sorba Thomas are likely to keep their places in the XI while limited midfield options mean David Kasumu should keep his place alongside Ben Wiles and Jack Rudoni in midfield.
The most likely change is expected to take place up top with Kian Harratt not establishing himself in the absence of Danny Ward, who has an Achilles issue that should keep him out for a couple more months. Delano Burgzog has made a positive impression and the 24-year-old Dutchman could lead the line as Huddersfield look to cause problems for a defence that evidently don’t enjoy people running at them.
