Scotland face a date with destiny on Tuesday night at Hampden, as they bid to reach the 2026 World Cup by defeating Denmark.

While Scotland crashed to a 3-2 loss in Greece on Saturday night, their automatic qualification hopes received a lifeline following Denmark’s shock 2-2 draw with Belarus.

Therefore, a win over the Danes on Tuesday night would guarantee Scotland a spot at next summer’s showpiece.

Denmark, on the other hand, know that avoiding defeat in Glasgow would be enough to see them top the group, while condemning Scotland to a play-off place in the process.

4 Selections @ 4.50

Over 1.5 Goals @ 1.33

Given the state of play in Group C, I would be surprised if we don’t see a minimum of two match goals on Tuesday night. Scotland will have to go for the jugular at some point here, and Denmark are more than capable of causing damage on the counter-attack. What’s more, I don’t think Denmark are the type of team that will park the bus and play for a draw at Hampden, especially after Saturday night’s abject showing against Belarus.

Moreover, four of Scotland’s five matches in Group C have produced over 1.5 goals, with two of their last three assignments breaking the over 3.5 goal barrier.

It’s been a similar story as far as Denmark are concerned, with Saturday's 2-2 draw with Belarus the latest in a number of high-scoring affairs that the visitors have been involved in of late. The Red and Whites netted three goals in each of their two wins over Greece while they racked up six strikes when putting Belarus to the sword.

Therefore, all the ingredients appear to be in place for this crunch clash to feature a glut of goals, with two or more looking well within the realms of possibility.

Lewis Ferguson to Commit 2+ Fouls @ 1.53

One player who I’m fairly certain will find himself on the referee's radar on Tuesday night is Lewis Ferguson. The Scotland midfielder has been a serial offender during the current World Cup qualifying campaign, committing an average of 3.25 fouls per 90 across his four appearances to date.

In fact, Ferguson has overstepped the mark on multiple occasions in each of his four Group C outings thus far, racking up a combined total of nine fouls across his previous two appearances, including four against Greece on Saturday night. Therefore, I’m more than happy to back Ferguson to fall foul of the match official twice or more on Tuesday night.

It's also worth mentioning that Ferguson’s aggressive approach has not gone unpunished either, with the 26-year-old tackling his way into the referee’s notebook in three of Scotland’s five group games, including September’s reverse fixture with Denmark.

Ferguson is likely to cross paths with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the midfield battleground on Tuesday night. The Danish ace was fouled three times during his side’s 3-0 win away in Greece back in September.

Scott McTominay to have 2+ Shots @ 1.33

Scott McTominay will consider himself unfortunate not to have netted against the Greeks, with one of his three efforts cannoning off the crossbar.

That latest shot output means McTominay has now averaged 2.01 efforts per game across his five Group C appearances for Scotland to date, registering two shots or more in all bar one of his five outings.

The 28-year-old was responsible for two of Scotland's 11 attempts on goal during September’s reverse fixture with Denmark, with one of those efforts the Scots’ solitary shot on target during that contest.

It’s been a similar story in Serie A for McTominay this season, where he has averaged 2.3 shots per game for Napoli this term, further strengthening the case for a repeat on Tuesday night.

Over 4.5 Cards @ 1.72

In a game of this magnitude, I think a minimum of five match cards should be well within range. It goes without saying that Scotland will be fired-up for this clash in front of a passionate home crowd, while Denmark’s position at the top of Group C is now in jeopardy, so sparks are likely to fly at Hampden.

What’s more, Scotland will be coming into this clash off the back of a fiery encounter with Greece which featured five yellow cards and one red. It’s also worth noting that six yellow cards were flashed during the Scots' home game with the Greeks last month.

While Denmark have not been involved in as many card-heavy games as Scotland of late, I’m prepared to look beyond that here given the dynamics of Group C as it heads towards its dramatic conclusion.

A whopping eight yellow cards were handed out when the two teams came up against each other in Copenhagen back on matchday one, with Scotland collecting five of those bookings. With so much more at stake this time around, referee Szymon Marciniak should be kept busy on Tuesday night, with over 4.5 cards looking like a sensible selection.

📈 Scotland v Denmark Form & Stats

The Tartan Army must have been fearing the worst when watching Greece race into a three-goal lead shortly after 60 minutes on Saturday night. To their credit, Steve Clarke and his players showed plenty of fighting spirit to claw two goals back and push Greece all the way, though it proved too little, too late.

Nevertheless, Clarke and his team live to fight another day, following Denmark's stumble against Belarus.

While Scotland have won each of their previous two home games in Group C, they did fail to keep a clean sheet in both of those victories.

Both teams have scored in each of Scotland’s last three group games, while each of those three matches also produced over 2.5 goals.

Scotland collected multiple cards in each of their two games with Greece, while they racked up five bookings in the reverse fixture with Denmark back in September.

Denmark missed a huge opportunity to rubber-stamp top spot in Group C and secure their place at next year’s World Cup when being held to a 2-2 draw by Belarus on Saturday night. That shock setback seemed inconceivable to many and means that the Danes now face a nervous night in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Prior to Saturday night’s stalemate, Brian Riemer’s team were ticking along nicely, having defeated Belarus 6-0 away from home last month, either side of a pair of impressive wins over Greece.

Denmark have been one of the most well-behaved teams across Europe’s World Cup qualifiers, picking up one yellow card or fewer in four of their five Group C outings to date.

Denmark have scored the opening goal of the game in each of their last four Group C assignments, not to mention nine of their overall 14 strikes have arrived before the half-time whistle.

📔 Scotland v Denmark Formation & Team News

Steve Clarke has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation more often than not across the previous five matchdays, the Scotland boss is expected to stick with that set up on Tuesday night. Clarke could even field the same starting XI here, despite Saturday night’s defeat in Greece.

Aaron Hickey, Ben Gannon-Doak and Che Adams are all available for selection after each player successfully walked the suspension tightrope on Saturday night.

Scotland are optimistic about Billy Gilmour’s chances of featuring on Tuesday, despite the midfielder being forced to sit out against Greece due to a groin injury.

Denmark boss Brian Riemer has made use of various different formations of late, including a 4-3-3, a 4-3-2-1 and a 4-4-1-1, opting for the latter against Belarus last time out. It’s therefore difficult to predict how the Danish boss will shape up his side on Tuesday night, not to mention he is likely to make some changes to his team in the wake of Saturday's horror show against Belarus.

Joachim Anderson and Rasmus Hojlund are both rated as doubtful after the pair missed out against Belarus due to illness. Injured trio Joakim Maehle, Will Osula and Yussuf Poulsen remain sidelined for Denmark, too.
