England travel to Latvia on Tuesday, looking to continue their perfect record in qualifying under Thomas Tuchel.

Recent performances have looked particularly promising for the Three Lions, with a 5-0 thumping of Serbia followed up by a 3-0 win over Wales last time out.

4 Selections @ 3.50

Bukayo Saka to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.30

Saka added another fantastic goal to his England catalogue against Wales last time out. He hasn’t really had a chance to impress Tuchel, with his most recent appearance being his first start under the new manager, but when fit, Saka is one of the first names on the team sheet.

He had four shots in total in that game and is a regular contributor for England, having scored 13 goals across his 45 caps, which may not sound like an impressive record, but it is respectable on the international stage. Saka has taken nine shots in the Premier League so far this season (2.33 per 90), with three of these attempts finding the target (0.78 per 90).

He didn’t feature in England’s 3-0 win over Latvia at Wembley a few months back, but England managed to notch eight shots on target in the game. They also managed 12 shots on target in their most recent qualifying game against Serbia, so things are starting to click in the final third under Tuchel.

Elliot Anderson to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.57

Anderson has adapted seamlessly to the international stage and is now near nailed on to be at the World Cup next summer. He offers a profile that England have been missing for the last few tournaments, though there now seems to be a plethora of options to fill this role, with Wharton unlucky to miss out on the squad as an example.

Anderson contested 10 duels in England’s 3-0 win over Wales last time out. He didn’t commit a foul in the game, but it's important to keep in mind that it was a friendly and England had the game wrapped up inside 20 minutes.

He won more duels than any other player in England’s win over Serbia in their most recent qualifying match (7), committing two fouls in the process. He also committed two fouls in England’s slender win over Andorra and is averaging 1.14 fouls committed per 90 in the Premier League this term.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.36

England netted three goals against Latvia when the sides met at Wembley a few months ago. It was one of Tuchel’s early games in charge, and his side look much stronger now, which will be a worry for Latvia.

England hit three goals against Wales last time out inside 20 minutes, and also put five past Serbia in their most complete performance under Tuchel so far. Overall, England have seen this selection land in four of their seven matches under Tuchel.

The Three Lions have found an effective formula in the final third in recent matches, intriguingly without some of their starting forwards, which can help them cover the line here. England registered an xG of 3.57 in their win over Latvia at Wembley from 27 shots, there is no reason why they won't cover this line on their own, in truth.

Andrejs Ciganiks to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.36

Ciganiks’ individual matchup against Bukayo Saka is one to watch in this qualifying tie. Latvia are expected to deploy a five man backline, a tactic they used at Wembley, which would directly pit Ciganiks against Saka.

In the previous encounter against England, which ended in a 3-0 win for the Three Lions, Ciganiks made one foul. On that day, his assignment was Jarrod Bowen, a player known for drawing contact. However, Saka is in a different class when it comes to earning fouls.

Saka has won nine fouls in his five Premier League appearances this season, averaging 2.33 per 90 minutes. This is a rate he has consistently maintained since his breakthrough at Arsenal. He drew one foul in his 70 minutes on the pitch against Wales and poses a persistent threat that will regularly test Ciganiks, who has already collected two yellow cards in this qualifying campaign.

3 Selections @ 21.00

Anthony Gordon to have 2+ Shots on Target @ 3.00

I always enjoy seeing Gordon play for England, the left hand side is one of the more political positions in the squad, with many players trying to nail down that spot as their own. Rashford is Gordon’s natural competitor on that side, and you would also expect Jack Grealish to be involved in one of the future camps.

Gordon is very direct which aids our selection here. He didn’t feature in England’s 3-0 win over Latvia at Wembley, but Tuchel’s side had eight shots on target in that game, so we can expect them to produce a decent shot on target count here again. Gordon did feature for England against Wales last time out and had three shots, one of which found the target.

Gordon has taken five shots across just 116 minutes of football during the international qualifiers (3.88 per 90), with three of these efforts finding the target (2.33 per 90). He’s also been bright for his club side this season, with an average of 3.97 shots per 90 across his four Premier League appearances.

Declan Rice to Score or Assist @ 2.00

Elliot Anderson’s introduction to the England squad frees up Declan Rice to have more of an active role in the final third. This was clearly on display in England’s win over Andorra at Villa Park, when Rice scored via a late run into the box.

He wouldn’t be given the licence to make this kind of run without Elliot Anderson offering appropriate cover behind him. Rice is also valuable when it comes to this market as he is on corners and wide free kicks for England. The Three Lions always end up with a strong number of corners in games like this as they are so dominant.

Rice can act as more of a threat for his nation in the final third now that England have settled their defensive midfield issue. He has already registered three goal contributions across his seven Premier League appearances so far this term.

Andrejs Ciganiks to be Shown a Card @ 4.00

As mentioned in the first bet builder, I think Ciganiks v Saka will be a key battle here. Ciganiks committed a foul against England in the reverse fixture and across his last three qualifying matches, he's committed six fouls (two per game). These matches have been against Serbia, Albania and Andorra, so we can expect his foul numbers to increase against higher calibre opposition here - making a card look good value at 4.00, particularly with Sub On Play On applied.

Saka has won nine fouls in his five Premier League appearances this season, averaging 2.33 per 90 minutes. He was fouled once against Wales last time out and three times against West Ham in his most recent match for Arsenal.

📈 Latvia v England Form & Tactics

England are steadily raising their level in preparation for the World Cup next summer. There are still issues for Tuchel to iron out, and it doesn’t help being without Kane and Bellingham at the moment, who will certainly be in Tuchel’s plans next summer.

There is an opportunity for Saka to impress the England manager, though he should be one of the first names on the team sheet regardless of the head coach. He scored another fantastic goal for his country against Wales last time out.

Squad selection is an interesting one at the moment, Tuchel has made some intriguing selections, but the headlines are the players that Tuchel has left out. I thought Wharton and Grealish, in particular, had done more than enough to warrant an inclusion in this latest camp, particularly with the players absent at the moment, but Tuchel seems to want to work with a very specific crop of players, which is not unusual for his managerial style.

As for Latvia, they aren’t really in with a chance of qualifying or finishing second in the group, having won just one of their six qualifying matches. They were second best in their defeat at Wembley a few months ago and a similar pattern should emerge here. Latvia are yet to win a game at home in the qualifying campaign, drawing two of their three matches.

📔 Latvia v England Formation & Team News

England have been lining up in a 4-2-3-1, but in games like this players are given more licence to be a bit more fluid in their shape, as England find themselves in the opposition half for the majority of the game. Tuchel may choose to experiment with a slightly different shape here, I think it’d be interesting to see two 10s, just to see if we can accommodate the variety of talent we have in the position.

In regards to team news, Quansah left the camp with a small injury and Bellingham won’t feature as he isn’t in the squad. Kane could return, but is likely to be treated with caution ahead of a return for Bayern Munich. Ollie Watkins has also been sent home from the squad due to injury, which could open the door for someone like Rashford or Bowen to lead the line - if Tuchel wants to try something different.

Latvia have no notable injury concerns and are expected to line up in a 5-3-2 here, the same shape they started with at Wembley. We can expect their defensive block to sit very low and invite England to break them down, looking to take the limited chances that may fall their way in moments of transition.

📊 Latvia v England Key Stats

  • England have won all five of their qualifying matches under Tuchel, without conceding a goal.

  • Latvia are yet to win at home during the qualifying campaign from three matches.

  • England’s most recent away game was a 5-0 win over Serbia.

  • England beat Latvia 3-0 when the sides faced off at Wembley a few months ago.
