Saturday's FA Cup Accumulator Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 1th March

Crystal Palace v Millwall

12:15

Crystal Palace to Win

Oliver Glasner’s progression with this Crystal Palace side has been really impressive. After finishing the season so brightly last campaign it was a real surprise to see the drop-off Palace suffered in the early parts of the season with no wins from their first 8 games. However, since then Glasner has really got his side to gel and master his 3-4-3 system which was so effective in dismantling Aston Villa 4-1 in their most recent game at Selhurst Park.

They welcome a Millwall side who have been going pretty steady under the tutelage of Alex Neil. The London-based side sit 12th in the Championship, just 6 points off a play-off spot so it’s likely that their attention is on the league campaign with a visit from fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City to come in just 3 days time.

Crystal Palace haven’t been dominant at Selhurst Park this season but Oliver Glasner has certainly got a more settled squad to pick from which includes former Millwall star Romain Esse, who could feature here. Palace have won 4 of their last 5 games across all competitions with the exception coming against an in-form Everton side.

They should be able to navigate this tie with relative ease against inferior opposition, Millwall can be very stubborn on the road judging by the fact they’ve only lost 5 of their 17 away assignments in the Championship this campaign but the gap in quality between the Premier League and the 2nd division should carry Palace over the line at home, following a really positive performance against Aston Villa.

Preston v Burnley

12:15

Under 2.5 Goals

There aren’t many sides you would fancy more than Burnley to keep the scoreline down. Scott Parker’s side boast the best defensive record across the top 4 divisions in England having conceded just 9 goals across their 34 games in the Championship this season.

These sides met a few weeks ago and played out a 0-0 draw with Burnley being as stubborn as you would expect. The game saw very little goalmouth action, something that’s been commonly associated with Burnley all campaign but certainly since the turn of the year - James Trafford has kept 9 consecutive clean sheets in a run stretching back to the 11th January. The recent meeting between the sides only saw 3 shots on target which is a pretty good indicator of the type of game we will see here.

Preston can be pretty stubborn themselves, Paul Heckingbottom’s side have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 games across all competitions which includes the 0-0 draw they played out against Wycombe in the last round of the FA Cup. This stubbornness should rule out any chance of a Burnley rout in a game that will likely be about the defensive organisation and occasional rash nature of both sides - there were 31 fouls exchanged in the recent meeting between the sides.

Bournemouth v Wolves

15:00

Over 3.5 Cards

These sides met just a week ago in the Premier League in a meeting that produced 7 cards, including a red card for Bournemouth centre back Illia Zabaryni who was sent off following a VAR review in the first half. It’s no surprise that this recent meeting produced so many cautions, both of these sides are aggressive when attempting to win the ball back which is something that becomes even more obvious when looking at their underlying numbers.

Bournemouth (13.7 fouls committed per game) and Wolves (13.1 fouls committed per game) make up the top 2 sides in the Premier League when it comes to team fouls. It’s no surprise to also see both sides in the top 10 in the Premier League when it comes to bookings, Bournemouth have been shown 68 yellow cards (3rd) whilst Wolves have collected 57 cautions (9th) in the English top-flight this season.

The previous meeting between the sides at Molineux back in November was also packed with incident, there were 6 goals in a 4-2 Bournemouth win as well as 6 yellow cards, further emphasising how often both of these sides are involved in scraps. They should continue to push forward with their physical approaches, something which when coupled with the resentment, that will no doubt be brewing as a result of the recent meetings between the sides, should result in 4+ match cards in this FA Cup encounter.

Man City v Plymouth

17:45

Man City (-2 Handicap)

Plymouth were excellent in their 1-0 win over Liverpool in the last round of the FA Cup. It was a result that seems to have given a bit of belief to a Plymouth side that looked doomed to relegation a few weeks ago but the picture has changed quickly, as it often does in the Championship, with Miron Muslic’s side just 3 points from safety.

However, this FA Cup clash will likely be 1 that Muslic may just be looking to compete in rather than throw everything at, given that Plymouth make the trip to Hull in just 3 days time with both sides battling it out for survival at the bottom of the Championship.

City have been far from their best this season but they are usually dominant in these sort of ties at home. They fired 8 past Salford in their only FA Cup game at home this season which was a result achieved despite heavy rotation, which further highlights how superior the depth of Premier League sides is when compared to their Championship challengers.

City are the joint-top scorers at home in the Premier League this season alongside Liverpool (28) which should be the source of their joy in this encounter. Plymouth have conceded 40 goals across their 17 away games in the Championship this season, winning none of these games and only scoring 6 goals themselves.

It’s hard to find many avenues to goal for Plymouth here which is something that should result in City dominance with Argyle likely to have 1 eye on their crucial meeting with Hull in just a few days.
