I am very active within the FPL community and run a monthly meet called FPL EDINBURGH meets. We get together, watch the games and meet the person behind the twitter handle. I also run a podcast called @_TheDoublePivot chatting football matchups and how that translates into FPL picks - I have also been a guest on many other FPL shows. I love F1 fantasy, keeping fit, and spending time with family.

⚔️ Gameweek 35 Review - 50 Points (41 Average)

A mish-mash of results, but still ahead of the average and another green arrow, so we take the W. Defence was not on form with no returns and only Henderson (3pts) above the blank scores with an extra save point. Midfield was much the same with Bowen (9pts) bringing home the most points. I was hoping for my Liverpool differential Diaz to return against a poor Chelsea side, but he didn’t play, so Munoz (1pt) came on in his place. My forward line held the mantle as has been the case this season with Evanilson and Isak both scoring, and the Newcastle man gaining maximum BPs. If you can nail the captaincy each week, that will go a long way to a good overall rank and luckily I chose right with Isak. A medium-sized green, let's see if we can continue that for the last few GW’s.

The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 36

🇳🇴 Erling Haaland – Man City (£14.8m, 22%)

Finally, after a long layoff due to injury, he’s back. The Norwegian forward with 21 goals in 28 games returns at the perfect time, with Southampton up next. Haaland has three goals in his last three games against the Saints, and I expect that to improve this weekend. It's always an uphill task to play a great Man City side but especially so when you have already been relegated and finished bottom in the league, with one of the worst scores ever.

Man City will have many opportunities in this match and with an expected goal involvement of 0.81 per 90 minutes for Haaland, I envisage him bagging at least a brace; it wouldn’t even surprise me if he returned with a hat-trick. The key point for this selection is ownership. At only 22% owned, he essentially is a differential. Now that will increase before the next deadline but with many already owning triple Man City and having Marmoush up top, they perhaps will risk it and go without Haaland in the hope he doesn’t start. But after such a long layoff, I think he will want to get back to scoring ways as soon as he can.

🇳🇿 Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest (£7.0m, 28%)

The Kiwi Haaland also returns to our thoughts. Though a lacklustre performance all round v Crystal Palace on Monday night, I expect a different outcome at the weekend. In the last few GW’s we need to heavily attack the bottom three teams, especially Leicester. Scoring two in the reverse fixture this season has good omens for those managers bringing him in.

The remaining games for Nottingham Forest look great for goals as after Leicester, it's West Ham and then Chelsea at home. These are must-win games if they want a Champions League place next season, and of course, in order to win games you need goals. The forward slots are tough to fill right now as it’s the position with the most in-form players, but as we are bringing more expensive players back into our side with the likes of Haaland and De Bruyne, Wood at only £7m is perfect. The straight swap for Isak to Wood is top of my list this GW.

Generic

🇧🇷 Matheus Cunha – Wolves (£13.8m - 71%)

The bonus magnet! Every single time he scores, he gets a full bonus of three points and results in a total score of nine points. If he gets more than just a single goal, he’s definitely onto a haul; his performance against Leicester of 15 points proves that. Up next is a Brighton side that have been tricky to predict but have been humbled on more than a few occasions while conceding more than just a few goals in the process.

With much talk on which club Cunha will join next, this is a perfect opportunity to secure that move to a bigger, better club. Three returns in a row and unlucky not to return v Man City, I can’t see him scoring any less than 10-20 points here. 5.8 points per match, second highest bonus points scorer(only behind Salah) and two goals three assists in the last four matches. If you don’t own him, you need to.

The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 36

🇪🇬 Omar Marmoush – Man City (£7.6m, 29%)

I just never saw the fascination with this pick. Sure, at the beginning, when he was playing in his natural position of 10 or on the wing, he was a cheap way into the Man City side, but since leading the attack, he’s been largely ineffective. He doesn’t suit that role, and in a period when Man City were so far below their usual high standards, it just compounded matters.

The hat-trick against Newcastle in GW25 (17pts) made managers overemphasise his returns. Six goals and one assist in 12 starts looks a decent return, but when you factor out the Newcastle result, he’s only scored three goals and one assist in 10 matches: blanking in over half of them (6). With Haaland returning from injury, he will move back into midfield and be subject to Pep roulette. He has been one of Man City’s best players since arriving, but everyone is in danger of rotation at City.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jacob Murphy – Newcastle (£5.3m, 18%)

A revelation in GW31 & 32 scoring three goals, one assist and 30 points; but finally that period of overachieving has come to an end. If you brought him in at the same time as the masses, super well done, but now is the time to let him go. Murphy is best utilised when injuries affect the squad (Gordon), and if not, his minutes are reduced. Point in note: in the last four fixtures, he hasn’t played more than 66 minutes, and this GW he was hooked after just 55 minutes.

For the remainder of the season, you need players who are certain to start and play the majority of the match. Of course, players can still haul without playing the majority of minutes, but more time on the pitch is more advantageous. The stat below of 0.12 goal involvement (against Brighton) is what you can expect if you don’t remove. Just as many other options for the same price, but with better output.

Generic

🇪🇸 David Raya– Arsenal (£5.6m, 31%)

Arsenal just aren’t keeping clean sheets anymore; only one clean sheet in the last six is a huge regression. Along with clean sheet points, ideally, you want some save points from your goalkeeper, and David Raya has no extra saves (over 2) since GW28 against Man United. Arsenal quite rightly have thrown all their eggs into the Champions League basket, and even if they get knocked out midweek against PSG and still play a full-strength side against Liverpool in the upcoming GW36, I don’t see them keeping the clean sheet.

With Newcastle after Liverpool, it doesn’t get any easier until the final GW38 against Southampton. Ideally, if you have two playing keepers, then bench him, but if not, as he is one of the most expensive goalkeepers, then transfer him out for a better alternative. Sels, Ederson or Flekken are all good options.

Top Tip – No DGW’s left.. Maybe there is? Talks are still ongoing for the fixture of Aston Villa v Tottenham to be rearranged. With less than two weeks until the original date, there is a chance that GW36 could turn into a DGW. Leave your transfers this week until as late as possible, it may pay off big!

🦸 Gameweek 36 Captaincy Selections

🇳🇴 Erling Haaland – Man City (£14.8m, 22%)

He’s almost back. I can’t remember a time when Haaland was so low owned and though it remains to be seen if he will start, if he does you can be sure he will score highly. To be honest, against a shocking Southampton side, even 30 minutes may even be enough. It only takes a second to score as the old adage goes.

Generic

Alternative Captain Options

If you’re not sure Haaland starts, then Cunha v Brighton looks great as does KDB v Southampton; there’s more consensus that he starts. Higher risk-wise for that rank climb is Munoz v Spurs, Bowen v Man Utd & Wissa, or Mbeumo v Ipswich. A lot of captains could score highly so ensure your vice-captain is also thought through.

Top three for me this GW are: Haaland, Cunha, and De Bruyne.

👁️ FPL Veteran's Vision and Verdict

Fairly well set for GW36, and I could possibly be activating either the Free Hit or Bench Boost chip. I have been building this team ready for that, and I’m almost there. A few key transfers are still to be made, and I’m waiting until the last second to hopefully change Isak to Haaland. The only other move I’m considering is Burn or Livramento to Gvardiol or Murillo. With it also being potentially a DGW, I am open to an extra transfer and a minus four to hopefully earn more over a DGW. It’s time to take some risks at the end of the season to ensure we get inside that coveted 100k bracket.

With only three GW’s remaining, there isn’t much time to have a little fun (backed up with stats and the eyes test) and go with your gut player pick. Many fixtures don’t go as planned at the end of the season, so there's a good chance the fringe picks score highly. Make sure you check X the morning of the deadline to see if the Norwegian robot is coming in!
