Fixtures for: Wednesday 14th May

Almere City v Fortuna Sittard

Eredivisie

18:00

Fortuna Sittard Double Chance

Fortuna Sittard head into the final two games of the Eredivisie season just one point behind Heerenveen who currently occupy the final Conference League play off position in the Dutch top flight.

They aren’t the only ones in the queue, 8th down to 13th are separated by just three points, making the race for Europe one of the most exciting aspects of the final stages of the Eredivisie season. Fortuna have the fortunate task of travelling to bottom placed side Almere City, who have only won two of their 16 home games in the Dutch top flight this season. Almere have only won one of their last 11 games in the Eredivisie which came against Wilhelm II, a side also battling relegation.

Fortuna Sittard dominated Almere in the initial meeting between these sides which ended in a 3-0 victory. Fortuna Sittard managed to generate a notable xG of 3.22 to Almere’s 0.67, which shows the disparity that exists between the sides.

Stockport v Leyton Orient

League One Play Offs

19:00

Both Teams to Score

The first leg of this playoff tie ended 2-2 and was not without controversy, as Leyton Orient had a goal given that looked suspiciously offside. The game was really lively and packed with goalmouth action, there were two penalties and both sides produced xG’s in excess of 2.0 (2.49-2.03).

Two of the three head-to-head meetings between these sides this season have seen both teams to score. Stockport have been solid at home defensively (22 goals conceded in 23 home games) but Leyton Orient have found the back of the net on the road with regularity. Richie Wellens’ side have scored 39 goals across their 23 away trips this season (1.69 per game) - only Wycombe (43) have scored more goals on the road.

The first goal here will massively change the game state with the immediate jeopardy offered by the second leg of the play offs, especially in a league like League One which can be so tough to find a way out of. The first leg suggests that we should see goals again here.

Bologna v AC Milan

Coppa Italia

19:00

Bologna Over 0.5 Goals

Bologna have been quietly excellent all season. Many expected a fall off after Thiago Motta’s departure to Juventus, but former Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano has done a superb job in keeping Bologna competitive in the league and putting together this cup run which gives them a chance at silverware for the first time since 1974.

These sides just faced off in the league in what was sold as a warm up clash for the final. AC Milan ran out 3-1 winners with Bologna managing four shots on target and generating an xG of 0.63. Bologna have found the back of the net in four of their last five games in Serie A and their run to the final is also pretty convincing when backing them to score.

Bologna have scored in each knockout phase, firing four past Monza, inching past Atalanta and scoring five goals across two legs against Empoli to reach the final. By contrast, AC Milan have only kept one clean sheet en route to the final since the round of 16. Milan’s backline is far from secure, Bologna have scored three goals across the two head-to-head meetings between the sides this season in Serie A and can net again here.

Real Madrid v Mallorca

La Liga

19:30

Real Madrid to Win

Real Madrid must now rely on a Barcelona collapse in the final weeks of the season to get their hands on the LaLiga title after falling to a 4-3 defeat to Hansi Flick’s side last time out, despite taking a 2-0 lead early on in the latest installment of El Clasico.

Real Madrid have won 14 of their 17 home games this season, which is a record only bettered by their Madrid neighbours and Barcelona. These three sides have been a cut above the rest this season and Real Madrid should have little problems in beating a Mallorca side that they fired three goals past in the most recent head-to-head meeting, which ended in a 3-0 win for Los Blancos.

Mallorca have lost nine of their 17 games on the road in La Liga this season which isn’t a terrible record, but travelling to the Bernabeu is an entirely different prospect. Mallorca have lost all eight of their visits to the Bernabeu in a run that stretches back to 2011.
