Fulham v Crystal Palace
Fulham host Crystal Palace in the first quarter-final of the FA Cup. Both sides will fancy their chances of reaching the semi-finals and possibly even the final given the relatively open field in the quarter-finals of the most prestigious cup competition in Europe.
Fulham reached this round following a penalty shootout victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford whilst Crystal Palace saw off local rivals Millwall in a game that was marred by an injury to Jean Phillipe Mateta who is expected to return to the squad for this tie.
⭐ Fulham v Crystal Palace Best Bet
Only Arsenal (25) and Liverpool (31) have picked up more points than Crystal Palace (23) since Boxing Day in the Premier League. The Eagles have also only conceded seven goals across this run of games highlighting the impressive job Oliver Glasner has done with this side after a slow start to the campaign.
This run of form includes beating Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League just a few weeks ago with Palace running out 2-0 winners. The balance of the side is perfect with a settled back three supported by attacking wingbacks and protected by a midfield duo which are aggressive but also have the ability to pick out the dangerous attacking trio.
This shape caused Fulham plenty of problems in the recent league meeting between the sides, it’s hard to stop the two players in behind the main striker who picks up pockets of space and platform the wingbacks to make runs beyond the opposition backline. Eze and Sarr are very effective in these roles with the latter also giving the Eagles the option to be direct with his speed in behind.
Fulham have been solid this campaign but have faced inconsistency at times, they’ve won just two of their last five games across all competitions, and getting over the line at Craven Cottage has been an issue all season. They’ve lost or drawn nine of their 15 games at home this campaign (60%) which will encourage a Crystal Palace side who have form on their side in chasing silverware for the first time since 1994.

👕 Fulham v Crystal Palace Predicted XI

🔍 Fulham v Crystal Palace Players to Watch
⚪ Daniel Munoz
Munoz has been key for Crystal Palace this season, Oliver Glasner has described him as ‘the perfect Premier League player’ in a nod to his physicality and energy to bomb up and down the right-hand side of the pitch. He’s registered seven goal contributions this season which showcases how effective he has been in the final third this campaign.
Munoz is averaging 1.11 shots per 90 in the Premier League this season and seems to thrive in the cup having already scored twice in the FA Cup this campaign whilst averaging 1.68 shots per 90 across his three appearances in the competition. Munoz scored against Fulham in the recent league meeting between the sides.
🔵 Eberechi Eze
Eze hasn’t been as influential as he would have liked to have been for Crystal Palace this season but is still enjoying a decent campaign with 14 goal contributions across his 30 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles.
What has stayed high throughout the campaign is his shot volume, Eze is averaging 3.87 shots per 90 across his 24 Premier League appearances this season which suggests that his goal count should be a bit higher than the two he’s managed in the Premier League, a statement supported by his xG (6.14). Eze had four shots in the recent league meeting between these sides with Palace having 10 shots overall showing that even when the shot count is modest, Eze is involved in the action.

💻 Fulham v Crystal Palace Form and Tactics
Fulham could look to match up with Palace here, Marco Silva has tinkered with systems throughout the campaign in order to get the most out of this Fulham side. Their main strength is down the left-hand side where they have a trio of Bassey, Robinson, and Iwobi who combine really well when Fulham have the ball but also work tirelessly when Fulham are sitting in their shape. This side of the pitch is likely to be a hub of activity with Richards, Munoz and Sarr representing the players that will stand in their way in this particular cup tie.
Fulham did line up in a 4-2-3-1 shape in the recent meeting between the sides but struggled to contend with Palace’s rotations in forward areas and the stability that Glasner’s 3-4-3 shape gives the Eagles. Palace can be incredibly effective even with low possession, they only had 38% of the ball in the recent league meeting but managed to have five shots on target whilst Fulham did not manage an effort on target despite controlling the ball for large swathes of the game.
Fulham only managed to generate an xG of 0.23 in the recent league meeting between the sides which points to how effective Palace have been in limiting space for the opposition in their own half, they’ve only conceded seven goals in the Premier League since Boxing Day, keeping clean sheets in eight of the 14 games they’ve played since then in all competitions.
Both sides are very organised and definitely make the most of their squads with two managers who are tactically sound. This tie is likely to be decided by the finest of margins given the general similarity across both London teams but with Palace entering the tie with more momentum, expect the Eagles to come out with a positive result at Craven Cottage.
