Ardley’s first game in charge comes at the perfect time
As always, we have kept our ear to the ground for any potential value to be found for our world-famous Gem Bets. Our National League expert has highlighted the Maidenhead double chance market in Tuesday’s clash between Southend and Maidenhead as one that may have been heavily overpriced by the bookmakers due to the recent Southend injury crisis. You can back this currently at a very appealing 1.73, but don’t hang around as this price likely won’t last long.
Southend’s squad has been decimated injury-wise, with only 11 players currently fit to feature, only two of which are defenders. Two players are suspended following sendings off at the weekend, whilst Maidenhead have been quietly assured this season, making a solid start to this campaign and keeping plenty of clean sheets.

💎 Gem Bet: Maidenhead Double Chance v Southend (National League)
Southend v Maidenhead
Southend United’s underlying numbers have been excellent since Kevin Maher and his coaching team took over. They’ve won 4 of their 9 league matches this season and should sit 9th.
Instead, they sit bottom of the league table. They’ve had 10 points deducted due to their owner failing to pay wages and HMRC. There are ongoing protests inside and outside of the ground. The players barely had a pre-season as they protested against lack of payment for them and the club staff.
The National League put a rule in place at the start of the season that Southend could only have 16 players on their books as punishment. They only have 15 signed up.
They lost captain and defender Nathan Ralph ahead of Saturday’s 3-0 loss at York City, a game that also saw midfielder-turned-defender Harry Taylor and wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss sent off. Meanwhile, Oli Coker was left on the bench due to the youngster nursing a muscle problem.
The club are due in magistrates court on Tuesday and on the evening, they will enter the second game in a run of 7 in 21 days with just 11 fit footballers available. Only two of those are defenders. They host a Maidenhead United side with 2 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses to their name so far this season, the Magpies comfortable in their skin as the part-time underdogs of the division.
The three defeats have come against Hartlepool United, Bromley & Boreham Wood, all three expected to challenge at the top end of the division. They have already kept five clean sheets. They are also exactly the type of powerful, direct, physical team that will enjoy battering and bruising a broken team.
1.73 feels like an absolute steal here in the double chance market.
