Levadiakos v Panathinaikos
After dropping just two points in 13 league games before the 2022 World Cup break, Panathinaikos have failed to win their last two duels against bottom-placed Ionikos and 10th-placed OFI. Despite recording a total of nine shots on target in these two games, Panathinaikos barely managed to create three clear-cut chances.
Ivan Jovanovic’s side are struggling to find ways to break down low blocks despite registering an average of 70 percent in possession in the last two games. In fact, OFI went down to 10 players just eight minutes into the first half and they even managed to take the lead before the hour mark.
Panathinaikos looked toothless in attack and failed to find the back of the net until the 97th minute, when Fotis Ioannidis scored to help them snatch a point. The Athens-based team have scored more than one goal in just two of their last seven league games, being clearly affected by the season-ending injury of their top performer, Aitor Cantalapiedra.
On Tuesday, they will face a solid Levadiakos defence, who have not conceded more than two goals in any of their nine home games this season despite having faced stronger rivals in PAOK (1-1), AEK Athens (0-2) and Olympiacos (0-1). In fact, Levadiakos have allowed in just seven goals on home soil, but they’ve scored only six times.
It’s highly doubtful whether they will manage to unlock a compact Panathinaikos defence, who have conceded just six times in 15 games. Jovanovic’s men allowed in two goals in their last two games, but both Ionikos and OFI were clinical enough to turn their only shots on target into goals. Only two of the last eight games between the two teams ended with over 2.5 goals and we shouldn’t expect an exciting game this time in Levadia either.
Levadiakos haven’t scored in any of their last five games against Panathinaikos, who are struggling to produce clear-cut chances against low blocks.
Ionikos v Olympiacos
Having scored as many as 11 goals in their three games after the World Cup break, Olympiacos have demonstrated that they are one of the most in-form teams in Greece along with AEK Athens. Coach Michel had the opportunity to get extra training sessions with the majority of his starters and it showed in the games against Atromitos (4-1), PAS Giannina (2-2) and Asteras (5-0).
Olympiacos boast the most talented attack in Greece, as Pep Biel, James Rodriguez, Kostas Fortounis, Cedric Bakambu, Gary Rodrigues and Giorgos Masouras all got their names on the scoresheet in the aforementioned games.
Sitting fourth, 10 points behind leaders Panathinaikos, Olympiacos are aware that they may not be able to compete for the league title this year. However, they want to push for a Champions League spot and finish second to demonstrate that they have what it takes to bounce back next season.
On Wednesday, they will face a struggling Ionikos, who have won just one of their 15 games thus far. Dimitrios Spanos’ side were lucky enough to turn their only clear-cut chance against Panathinaikos into a goal and snatch a point against the leaders, but their defence will struggle to contain Olympiacos’ forwards.
Being aware that they should finish the game off soon and avoid making the same mistake Panathinaikos made at the Neapoli Stadium, Olympiacos will push from the off to secure their 18th win in their last 21 matches against Ionikos, who have never managed to beat the Greek Super League champions.
Meanwhile, as many as 30 goals have been scored in the last 10 games between the two teams, which means that we should expect at least over 1.5 goals to be scored in this duel – especially taking into account that the third-best attack in the league is facing the second-worst defence.
