Both sides have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and sit joint top of the table with a 100% record. It’s the first time since the 1971/1972 season that both sides have opened with three wins from three games and this makes for an intriguing derby as something has to give.
The recent rivalry between the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri has been contested at the very highest level. The sides met in last season’s Italian Super Cup and the Champions League. Inter Milan prevailed in both competitions, winning the Super Cup and progressing to the Champions League final where they eventually lost to Manchester City. Although Inter Milan will start slight favourites, revenge will surely be on the agenda for AC Milan, providing a spectacle not to be missed.

Martinez to continue form against rivals?
Lautaro Martinez has been in scintillating form this season and sits at the top of the league’s goalscoring charts having bagged five goals in the opening three games.
This included a brace against Monza and Fiorentina at home and an away goal against Cagliari, earning him a start for Argentina ahead of Julian Alvarez against Ecuador. Perhaps favourably for Inter Milan, Martinez was rested against Bolivia so should be fresh heading into the derby where he has been a constant thorn in AC Milan’s side in recent times, netting eight goals in 14 in this fixture.
Inter Milan team news
Simone Inzaghi has a relatively healthy squad to select from which should please the Italian ahead of this clash. With no suspensions to note, there are only a couple of fringe players with minor knocks that may not feature this weekend.
Stefano Sensi is carrying a minor muscle injury and may have to wait until late September to return to action. However, Juan Cuadrado could miss out having picked up an injury during the international break. The 35-year-old was taken off just after half time as Colombia beat Venezuela 1-0 in their opening World Cup Qualifier on Friday evening.
Providing the rest of the squad return to Milan from their respective nations in good health, Inzaghi will be able to field a full-strength side against their fierce rivals.
Former Chelsea duo to provide main threat?
AC Milan have recruited well during the summer bringing in Tijjani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal and Yunus Musah from Valencia.
However, the marquee signings of the window both came from Chelsea as Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek joined former team-mate Fikayo Tomori in Milan. Pulisic in particular has been buoyant in the media since completing his move.
The USA captain said:
“For me it’s a nice thing, a nice restart. It was definitely the right moment, I’m enjoying playing. Now I just have to continue and I’m very enthusiastic about the future at Milan.”
This has translated to the pitch as the midfielder has scored two in his first three starts.
AC Milan team news
Having sustained a minor ankle injury on international duty with France, Olivier Giroud has been training individually in a bid to be fit to face Inter Milan on Saturday. With their opening game in the Champions League against Newcastle United on Tuesday, Stefano Pioli may not risk him.
The Rossoneri also have issues in defence. Fikayo Tomori is suspended and serves a one-match ban following his red card against AS Roma and Pierre Kalulu, who was expected to deputise for the Englishman, is struggling to overcome injury.
Therefore, Simon Kjaer could come in to partner Malick Thiaw in central defence. Meanwhile, Ismael Bennacer remains a long term absentee from the squad due to a knee injury.

ABC’s 3/1 Inter Milan v AC Milan bet builder
⚽ Inter Milan double chance
📈
Odds: 1.25
The San Siro will be bouncing for the derby and given that Inter Milan are the home side, they will have the majority of the crowd onside, which could play its part.
The Nerazzurri are yet to concede a goal this season and with Giroud not expected to feature, there will be a heavy reliance on Rafael Leao to break through the defensive lines, especially as Giroud has played a direct part in five of AC Milan’s eight goals this season.
With Tomori and Kalulu also missing, Inter Milan will look to exploit an unfamiliar centre back partnership with the likes of Martinez, Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu ready to take full advantage.
It’s difficult to see the home side losing this one so the Double Chance market seems a solid selection.

🎯 Lautaro Martinez to have 1+ shot on target
📈
Odds: 1.30
With Martinez in great form, there is every chance he will get opportunities to add to his already impressive tally, especially against a side in which he has flourished.
The Argentinian has averaged 5.5 shots per game this season, 2.4 of which have been on target. This is an improvement on his average of 3.3 shots in the 2022/2023 campaign. With a weakened defence, Martinez should have plenty of opportunities to test Maignan in the AC Milan goal.
There is every chance he could find the back of the net in the match, but backing at least one shot on target instead seems a highly likely outcome.

🛑 Theo Hernandez to commit two or more fouls
📈
Odds: 2.00
Theo Hernandez is likely to face a difficult evening at left back. Denzel Dumfries is in fantastic form at right wing back having scored and assisted already this season.
The Netherlands international also assisted three of his side’s five goals during the international break and Hernandez will have a job to stop him marauding down the flank.
Dumfries has drawn 1.74 fouls on average this season and the French left back may find himself committing some tactical fouls to prevent chances being created.
Marcus Thuram is also likely to pose a threat up top and given he has drawn an average of 2.17 fouls himself this season, it presents further issues for Hernandez to deal with and two or more fouls is a good shout here.

🟨 Over 3.5 cards
📈
Odds: 1.15
Simone Sozza has been selected to officiate his first Milan derby and the pressure will be on to maintain order with these arch rivals.
The 36-year-old is relatively inexperienced at this level having only refereed in the top flight since 2020 and the occasion may well prove to be overwhelming for the Italian.
Last season, Sozza averaged five cards per game having dished out 55 in the 11 games he took charge of. Combative midfielders Nicolo Barella and Rade Krunic will go head-to-head and the tackles will be flying in, the duo collected 13 yellows between them last season in the league.
The pressure cooker of the San Siro, coupled with the high stakes may well produce plenty of fouls and cards here and Over 3.5 Cards looks tempting.

⚽ Inter Milan double chance
📈
Odds: 1.25
Inter Milan should have enough to hold off any meaningful challenge from AC Milan here and an away win looks a difficult task for the Rossoneri. Simone Inzaghi has a great record against AC Milan, winning the previous four meetings without conceding a goal and has recently been rewarded with a new contract at the club. Therefore, the Double Chance market is the basis for bet builder level 2 as well.

🎯 Lautaro Martinez to have two or more shots on target
📈
Odds: 2.40
Given his rich vein of form, boosting Lautaro Martinez’s shots on target from one to two was a logical step and it provides a healthy odds boost for the bet builder. It’s probable that the Argentinian will find the back of the net in the match, however, two on target is the selection.

🛑 Theo Hernandez to commit two or more fouls
📈
Odds: 2.00
It was tempting to uplift this leg of the bet builder to a Theo Hernandez yellow card, but two fouls is a sensible bet. The Frenchman has already collected two yellow cards this season and another on international duty against the Republic of Ireland. He is prone to the odd reckless challenge and has previous with Denzel Dumfries, so expect a few mistimed challenges here.

🟨 Over 4.5 cards
📈
Odds: 1.44
A fiercely contested Milan derby should produce plenty of cards, as it has historically. The last five meetings between these sides have generated an average of 5.8 cards per game, so there is every chance there could be a flurry again. Infact, only once in these matches has there been fewer than five cards so boosting the bet builder from 3.5 to 4.5 cards seems a sensible move.
