Martinez to continue form against rivals?

Lautaro Martinez has been in scintillating form this season and sits at the top of the league's goalscoring charts having bagged five goals in the opening three games. 

This included a brace against Monza and Fiorentina at home and an away goal against Cagliari, earning him a start for Argentina ahead of Julian Alvarez against Ecuador. Perhaps favourably for Inter Milan, Martinez was rested against Bolivia so should be fresh heading into the derby where he has been a constant thorn in AC Milan’s side in recent times, netting eight goals in 14 in this fixture.

However, Juan Cuadrado could miss out having picked up an injury during the international break. AC Milan have recruited well during the summer bringing in Tijjani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal and Yunus Musah from Valencia.

Having sustained a minor ankle injury on international duty with France, Olivier Giroud has been training individually in a bid to be fit to face Inter Milan on Saturday. With their opening game in the Champions League against Newcastle United on Tuesday, Stefano Pioli may not risk him. 

The Rossoneri also have issues in defence. Fikayo Tomori is suspended and serves a one-match ban following his red card against AS Roma and Pierre Kalulu, who was expected to deputise for the Englishman, is struggling to overcome injury. 

Therefore, Simon Kjaer could come in to partner Malick Thiaw in central defence. Meanwhile, Ismael Bennacer remains a long term absentee from the squad due to a knee injury.
