Jonny Clayton v Ross Smith Expert Tips & Predictions
‘The Ferret’ takes on Ross Smith in this round 2 clash, as Jonny Clayton seeks to take back the title he won three years ago. Matches between these two tend to be tight, with three Smith wins and four for Clayton across their last 7 head-to-head matches. Smith knocked Clayton out in the first round of this tournament last year – the Welshman will be eager to avenge that defeat.

Jonny Clayton v Ross Smith Best Bets
🎯 Ross Smith Most 180s
Ross Smith is the 1.73 favourite in his second round clash with Jonny Clayton on Wednesday night, but this tungsten tussle could be tighter than the pre-match odds suggest. Instead, look to Smith to hit the most 180s at 1.44. ‘Smudger’ is a heavy scorer and one of the most frequent 180 hitters across the entire PDC. Across the last 12 months of darting action, only Luke Humphries (736), Luke Littler (705) and Stephen Bunting (614) have crashed in more maximums than Smith (593).
While Clayton should also contribute to the 180 count here, Smith is a lot more reliable and consistent when it comes to filling up the treble 20 bed. Smith won the 180 count in his opening night contest with Gian van Veen and he is fancied to follow suit against ‘The Ferret’.
🎯 Ross Smith Over 4.5 180s
Given that round two fixtures increase to a best of five sets shootout, there is plenty of scope for Ross Smith to rack up over 4.5 180s on Wednesday night. The Dover-born star managed to hit three 180s in his first round win over Gian van Veen, so a further two should be within range against Jonny Clayton. As already mentioned, Smith is one of the PDC’s most deadly operators when it comes to delivering maximums.
Smith came up against Clayton at this year’s UK Open, and despite falling to a 10-8 defeat, he racked up a whopping 10 180s in comparison to ‘the Ferret’s’ two. He also hit a notable nine maximums when losing to Joe Cullen in round two of last year’s World Grand Prix. Thus, five or more 180s from ‘Smudger’ on Wednesday night looks worth supporting at 1.8.
