Man City v Wydad AC
Kick Off: Wednesday 18th June at 17:00
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
Manchester City kick off their Club World Cup campaign against Wydad Casablanca, a side hailing from Morocco. Manchester City are favourites to top Group G which also contains Juventus and Al-Ain with Pep Guardiola eager to write off last season and get back to winning ways by lifting the Club World Cup.
Manchester City have already been active in the transfer window, bringing in Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri to bolster their squad and cover for departing and aging players like Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.

⭐ Man City v Wydad AC Best Bets
Manchester City are priced at 1.06 to get their Club World Cup campaign off to a winning start so we can expect the Cityzens to rack up a few goals here with Marmoush standing out as a potential goalscorer in the opening game of this tournament.
Marmoush has been excellent since joining Manchester City from Frankfurt in the January transfer window. Making the switch to the Premier League midway through the season is never easy, but Marmoush settled as quickly as we’ve seen a new acquisition settle, scoring seven goals across his 16 Premier League appearances. Marmoush’s shot volume across these fixtures is also quite promising, he took 49 shots across his 16 Premier League appearances during the 24/25 season (3.73 per 90) with 17 of these attempts finding the target (1.29 per 90).
Marmoush was already putting up incredible numbers for Frankfurt before he joined Manchester City which strengthens the argument for him to find the back of the net here. Marmoush netted 28 goals across his 48 appearances for both Manchester City and Frankfurt during the 24/25 season.
👕 Man City v Wydad AC Predicted XI

🔍 Man City v Wydad AC Players to Watch
🔵 Tijjani Reijnders
The signing of Tijjani Reijnders may be the most important signing that Manchester City make this summer as he addresses a midfield problem that Pep Guardiola’s side faced throughout the 24/25 season. Not only did City miss Rodri which made them vulnerable to counterattacks, they lacked a profile like Reijnders who could provide goals and assists from midfield with Gundogan’s return to City not really materialising as Guardiola expected it to.
Reijnders registered 20 goal contributions across his 55 appearances for AC Milan during the 24/25 season and can be backed to get his City career off to a positive start here with a goal contribution on what is set to be his debut for the Cityzens.
🔴 Mohamed Moufid
Mohamed Moufid plays as a fullback for Wydad Casablanca, usually as a right back, which would pit him up against Jeremy Doku here.
Doku is one of the best 1v1 players in Europe and will certainly cause issues for Moufid - Doku won 33 fouls across his 16 Premier League starts during the 24/25 season (1.96 per 90). Moufid picked up nine yellow cards during the 24/25 season for Wydad Casablanca, more than any other player in the squad.
💻 Man City v Wydad AC Form and Tactics
It feels as though Pep Guardiola is looking to rebuild his Manchester City side which was aging with the core of players that brought City such success over recent seasons just starting to tire slightly. City have responded to this decline by freshening up the squad with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders already through the door before the Club World Cup.
It’s yet to be seen how Pep Guardiola organises these new players into his starting lineup but the presence of Ait-Nouri for example could mean a new role for Josko Gvardiol who started lining up as a centre back in the final few weeks of the 24/25 season having spent most of the campaign as a left back. The signings of Cherki and Reijnders should make City more comfortable in possession, adding energy to the middle of the park which was missing at points for City during the 24/25 season.
As well as these new signings, the return of Rodri will be massive for Manchester City in the middle of the park. He made his return to the squad in the final game of the Premier League season against Fulham and is in line to play a big part in this Club World Cup campaign. The return of Rodri should limit the number of transitions that Manchester City faced during the 24/25 campaign with their martial in the middle of the park returning to add some stability to Manchester City.
Wydad Casablanca finished third in the Botola Pro division during the 24/25 campaign. They haven’t won their domestic league since 2022 and qualified for this tournament through their success in the CAF Champions League also back in 2022. They haven’t been at that level since those triumphs, finishing second, sixth and third in the subsequent seasons. Wydad Casablanca did play some warm up games for this competition to test themselves against other European teams, they lost both games against Sevilla and Porto by 1-0 scorelines.
