There is a huge Group A clash at Estadio Akron on Friday morning as Mexico square off against South Korea.

Both nations won their opening World Cup matches, so another victory here would all but seal qualification for the knockout stages.

Mexico will have home advantage, but South Korea should pose a far sterner test than South Africa did, in what looks set to be a close contest.

📁 Mexico v South Korea Cheat Sheet

Generic

📈 Mexico Recent Form

Mexico made a dream start to their World Cup qualifying campaign with a well deserved 2-0 win over South Africa last Thursday. That leaves them top of Group A heading into their second assignment, level on points with South Korea. The win also stretched Mexico’s unbeaten run to nine matches, posting seven wins across that sequence.

Mexico boss Javier Aguirre will be forced to make at least one change to his starting XI after Cesar Montes was sent off last time out. That should open the door for Edson Alvarez to return to the side.

📈 South Korea Recent Form

South Korea rounded off their World Cup preparations with wins over Trinidad & Tobago and El Salvador. They carried that momentum into their opener against Czechia by coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.

It should also be noted that the Taegeuk Warriors sailed through Asian qualifying without losing a single match.

South Korea go into this clash with no injury or suspension concerns. Hyeon-Gyu Oh is pushing for a start after coming off the bench to score the winner against Czechia last week.
