Monday’s Euro 2024 Qualifying Treble
Ukraine v Italy
Euro 2020 winners Italy will face Ukraine at a neutral venue in Germany on Monday night. Qualification for next summer’s finals is on the line for both sides here.
Italy currently find themselves in second place of Group C, level on points with their upcoming opponents, who currently sit in third. Italy have the head-to-head advantage over Ukraine, having beaten them 2-1 in September. Therefore, a point will be sufficient for Luciano Spalletti’s men. Italy have scored an average of more than two goals per game, with their 16 goals being shared by 11 players. Apart from their encounters with England, Italy have been reasonably strong at the back, conceding four goals in five games.
Should they wish to qualify for Euro 2024, Ukraine must pick up all three points from this meeting. Goals have not exactly been flying in for Ukraine, scoring 11 goals in seven games. Despite his form for Girona, who currently lead La Liga, forward Artem Dovbyk has struggled to find form for his country, only netting once in seven appearances. Ukraine have kept things tight at the back, only conceding eight goals in total.
When the sides last met, Italy should have won by more than a one-goal margin, having dominated play. Italy will expect to pick up all three points here; however, a draw will be enough for them to qualify; therefore, it is worthwhile backing Spalletti’s side to either win or draw.
Czech Republic v Moldova
Czech Republic will welcome Moldova to the Andruv Stadium on Monday night. Only one of these teams will be able to qualify from Group E.
Czech Republic’s draw with Poland on Friday was enough to rule Poland out of the race for qualification. Jaroslav Silhavy’s side currently find themselves in second place, two points clear of Moldova. The hosts have scored nine goals across their seven games. Forward Vaclav Cerny has been key going forward, scoring three goals in four starts. West Ham’s Tomas Soucek has also impressed, amassing three goal contributions, whilst contributing to his country’s strong defensive record. Czech Republic have conceded six goals in total, with three of these coming away at Albania, a game in which they played for more than half the game with ten men.
It would be a huge shock if Moldova were to qualify ahead of both Czech Republic and Poland; although winning their final fixture would do the job. However, this will be no easy task for the Moldovans. Goals have been hard to come by for the visitors, only finding the net seven times in seven games. However, they find themselves in a position to qualify due to their decent defensive record, averaging only one goal conceded per game.
A goalless draw occurred when the sides faced each other in Moldova; however, with home advantage on their side, Czech Republic will be confident of winning this clash, and sealing qualification in the process.
Slovenia v Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan will travel to Slovenia on Monday night. Both sides are still in the race to qualify for Euro 2024.
Slovenia currently sit one point above their upcoming opponents, having amassed 19 points from a possible 27. Slovenia have scored a fair number of goals in the qualification stage, netting 18 times in total. Forwards Benjamin Sesko, Andraz Sporar and Zan Vitopnik have all been amongst the goals, scoring nine between them. Sporar and Sesko, as well as midfielder Adam Gnezda Cerin have provided creativity, amassing seven assists collectively. Slovenia have a decent defensive record, conceding an average of less than one goal per game.
Kazakhstan need to win in order to qualify for the Euros; however, they are clear underdogs in this clash. Kazakhstan have sometimes looked threatening going forward, with top scorer Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov having four goals to his name. However, they appear to have switched off defensively at times, conceding ten goals in total. In their most recent fixture, they conceded against San Marino, who have only scored twice across the qualification stage.
Slovenia beat Kazakhstan 2-1 away from home in the reverse fixture, and the hosts will expect to win this encounter, progressing to the finals in Germany.
