It has been a nightmare start to the season for Atalanta, with just two wins from 11 Serie A matches. Their 3-0 loss against Sassuolo just before the international break was the final straw for Ivan Juric, who was relieved of his managerial duties. Raffaele Palladino has stepped in to fill the gap, and he will have to start strong to get Atalanta challenging near the top of the Italian top-flight again.

📈 Napoli v Atalanta Form & Stats
Ivan Juric lost just one of his opening 11 games as Atalanta boss, and that was against PSG in the Champions League, but the Bergamo side were way too passive in their approach and seven of those matches ended in draws. In fact, Atalanta have been stalemate specialists so far this season - in the league, they have the record of two wins, two losses, and seven draws, highlighting how they have lacked ruthlessness to take all three points.
Palladino will hope to bring fresh ideas and energy to Bergamo, which has been quite a negative place this season. The friction between him and Lookman certainly didn’t help things, but Palladino has got a proven track record in the Italian top-flight.
Napoli have been a lot more clinical, but a couple of poor results prior to the international break has knocked them off top spot. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Como, before losing 2-0 on their travels against Bologna. In fairness, both Como and Bologna have started the season really well, sitting in the top seven.
The Naples side have been a bit inconsistent at times, and they have struggled in the Champions League. With just one win from four matches, they currently sit 24th in the standings, barely holding on to a play-off spot.
📔 Napoli v Atalanta Formation & Team News
Palladino is likely to stick with Atalanta’s regular 3-4-3 shape, rather than completely changing things from his first game. Gianluca Scamacca has been battling injury this season, but did make a few appearances from the bench before the international break, so he will be in contention to start here over Nikola Krstovic. Charles De Ketelaere and Lookman should provide support for him, while Davide Zappacosta and Raoul Bellanova have been the regular wing backs to provide width.
Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined, joined by Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who picked up a muscle injury while on international duty. Rasmus Hojlund was on the receiving end of that result against Scotland, but he has been in good form this season for Napoli. With Benjamin Sesko injured, rumours have emerged about a potential recall for Hojlund to Manchester in January.
Matteo Politano and David Neres should start out wide for Napoli, while Leonardo Spinnazzola is another injury concern, meaning Mathias Olivera will compete with Miguel Gutierrez to start at left back.
