Thursday’s Nations League Accumulator Tips
We delve into League C to get the ball rolling in the penultimate set of matches in the UEFA Nations League where Armenia will be looking to take a huge step towards a shot at promotion when they host the Faroe Islands.
These two played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture but Armenia will surely be better equipped to get the job done on home soil against a Faroes outfit who really do not travel well.
Faroe Islands have only won one of their last 27 away matches dating back to 2020 and that was against Liechtenstein which isn’t even the greatest form guide in the world.
Armenia might not be a nation on the up like some in League C are but it is a tough place to go at the best of times.
Latvia have already been here and been thumped 4-1 in this campaign while in Euro 2024 qualifying, Wales could only draw in Armenia while both Croatia and Turkey only won by one goal.
In Lucas Zelarayan, Armenia are likely to have the best player on the pitch and he can lead the home side to a win.
We head to the top flight for the second leg of the Thursday accumulator where France will look to book their spot in the quarter-finals in March when they host an Israel side who will be relegated should they lose the game.
France won the reverse fixture 4-1 but there is enough to suggest that this will be a slightly tighter affair, not least because Didier Deschamps has left Kylian Mbappe out of the squad for this window, which suggests that he is just happy to get the job done here.
There is no Antoine Griezmann or Olivier Giroud in the French setup anymore so their leading scorer in this squad has just eight goals which means this is unlikely to be a runaway win for ‘Les Bleus’.
Israel took a couple of beatings in the last international break but two of the four French goals came in the last five minutes so the score was skewed a little.
France games under Deschamps rarely catch fire and with Israel outclassed at this level it would be wise to expect a barrage of goals not to appear. Under 4.5 goals feels the right play.
It is into League B for our third bet on the evening where Greece will look to build on their fine win at Wembley last month when they host an England side who are gearing towards the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as their coach.
Greece went to Wembley and shocked England, not just by winning but also by the way that they played but you would imagine that Lee Carsley will be prepared for that and he will play a proper number nine this time, unlike at Wembley where he went with a formation that never looked like working.
That potential change in formation and the availability of Harry Kane would suggest that England will be better equipped to win the game but Greece shouldn’t be disrespected here. Their position in the group is on merit and a win for them here would secure their promotion to the top flight.
This feels like a game where goals should flow fairly naturally and the 1.33 on over 1.5 goals appeals. It is a line England are more than capable of covering on their own but Greece could well assist with the scoring to ensure the over lands.
We remain in League B for the penultimate leg of our Thursday acca where Slovenia and Norway will look to leap to the top of their group table with one match to go.
Norway were pretty emphatic 3-0 winners in the reverse meeting between these two and they have Martin Odegaard fit and back in a squad which also includes Erling Haaland but the Norwegians are without Orjan Nyland who is injured. That means someone with no more than two caps will be in goal here.
Slovenia have their own hotshot in the form of Benjamin Sesko and he’ll be looking to prove his worth here so goals should be on the menu once again, especially given what defeat could mean here in terms of potentially being out of the promotion race.
All three matches that these two sides have played outside of Kazakhstan and that slow plastic pitch have seen over 1.5 goals scored and this feels like a good opportunity for that to continue. This fixture finished 2-1 in the last Nations League campaign and over 1.5 goals appeals here.
The last leg of our accumulator on Thursday evening comes from Skopje where a reemerging North Macedonia side can secure their promotion back to League B with a match to spare when they host a weak Latvia outfit.
Macedonia went to Riga and won 3-0 in the reverse meeting between these two sides and they will be full of confidence heading into this one having won their last three matches.
Latvia are without a win in 10 matches on their travels and that includes a 4-1 loss in Armenia earlier in the campaign so they are not good travellers by any means.
North Macedonia are pretty decent on home soil. They have only lost one of their last eight matches in front of their own crowd and that was despite being 2-0 up on Ukraine before they staged an incredible comeback.
England and Italy have been to this part of the world in the last 14 months and failed to leave with three points while in this campaign, North Macedonia eased past Armenia 2-0.
It would be a surprise if this isn’t another win for a North Macedonia side who look like the standout team in the section.
