Tuesday’s Nations League Accumulator Tips
The final night of the UEFA Nations League group stage sees the Netherlands making the trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina to round off their section.
They do so knowing that they have secured a quarter-final spot and they will want to show that they can go on the road and win as at some point in the last eight they might be required to do that.
You would imagine that they have the perfect opponent to brush aside because Bosnia-Herzegovina have just been humbled by Germany and a technically proficient Dutch side is the last thing they need to come up against less than 72 hours later.
Bosnia-Herzegovina have now conceded 16 goals in five matches and they kept a clean sheet in one of those so when they are beaten they are emphatically put to the sword.
It might be that with no competitive pressure on this one that the Netherlands don’t run up the goals but they put five past the minnows in the reverse meeting in this group and whatever the score ends up being there has to be a strong likelihood that the Dutch will come out on top.
Begin the acca by siding with the Dutch.
Staying in that group, Germany will look to round off their Nations League group with another victory when they go up against a Hungary side who know they will need to come out on top in a relegation play-off if they are to remain in the top-flight.
Germany have dominated this group and that all started with a 5-0 win over Hungary and there is little to think that they are not going to round off the campaign with another victory as they get set to play in the quarter-finals of the competition in March.
Germany have won four and drawn the other match in this section but the telling statistic has been the 17 goals they have scored in their five matches.
That highlights how far above the weaker two in the group they are if not all three if you include the Netherlands.
On the flip side, Hungary have scored just three goals, two of which were in one match in a 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina so a team full of goals against one struggling for them bodes well for a Germany win.
We move down to League B for the next leg of the accumulator where Turkey will go in search of the win that they need to ensure automatic promotion to the top flight when they travel to Montenegro.
Turkey thought they had the promotion wrapped up at the weekend when they got a controversial penalty late on against Wales but were unable to capitalise on that chance but they know that a win here will still get the job done.
Montenegro have been outclassed in this section, losing all five matches and scoring just one goal in the process and they will need to drop down to League C and regroup and come back stronger once this match is finished.
Sometimes in this situation, the freedom of the underdog could cause problems for Turkey but the way the visitors have played for the last couple of years you sense this one is all about them.
If they are clinical in front of goal then the group leaders should have more than enough within their ranks to come out on top and secure promotion in style.
Staying in that same tier, there is a potential promotion decider between Czechia and Georgia on Tuesday evening with the home side currently controlling their own destiny but a win for the visitors would see them elevated to the top flight.
Georgia are probably wondering how they haven’t topped this group already with some really good performances but the fact is they haven’t been clinical in front of goal often enough and now they have to go on the road and win the game if they are to go up at the first time asking.
These two are no strangers to each other having faced off at Euro 2024 in a 1-1 draw and again in the reverse meeting between the pair in this group which Georgia dominated with a 4-1 win but since then the Georgians have scored just twice in four matches.
The Czechs haven’t exactly been free-scoring either so while both teams need to win here this doesn’t stand out as a natural game which will have a lot of goals in it, especially with both sides having had tough games on Saturday.
Under 3.5 goals looks a safe call to add to the accumulator.
Moving into League C, we already know that Sweden will be elevated to the second tier ahead of their final match against Azerbaijan but there is every reason to think that a mismatch could occur here.
Sweden were expected to be the standout side at this level and that is how it has proved. There is every chance when they get there that they will go straight through League B too with the front two of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres about as good as there is around Europe right now.
Those two certainly have the potential to put Azerbaijan to the sword. This is an Azerbaijan team who have already lost 3-1 to this Sweden side and the only point they gained in the group came in a 0-0 draw with Estonia at the weekend.
There is too much movement in this Sweden side and too much quality in attacking areas to think that Azerbaijan will be able to contain them in this game but with nothing to lose the visitors might find something on the break.
Over 2.5 goals is the pick here with Sweden more than good enough to cover that on their own.
In the same group as Sweden, Slovakia know that they can get themselves ready for a promotion play-off in the spring and they will look to go into that match off the back of a win when they host Estonia in their final group game.
Estonia have probably achieved their main goal which would have been to ensure they play at this level of football next term and it might be that there is a bit of a comedown from that.
Slovakia will consider themselves a little unfortunate to be beaten by Sweden on Saturday night as if they had been a little more clinical in the final third there were openings for them to find a second goal in that game.
They are going to have a lot more of the ball in this match though and with nothing like the threat coming the other way that Sweden hit them with, this would appear a good chance for Slovakia to pick up a win.
Slovakia won the reverse meeting 1-0 and can better that to round off our international break.
