Specialist in Scandinavian & European soccer. I have been in the betting game for nearly 20 years now with a summer focus on the Norwegian & Swedish leagues. With an in-depth knowledge of the region & teams I have been involved in a specialist podcast & more for close to a decade. My favourite types of bets are attacking the goal lines and identifying the tactics & style of each team & manager who can contribute positively. Outside of betting I was once a Sunday League goalkeeper myself. But my boots are now retired and instead prefer to hit up the cricket pitch and golf course in my spare time.

There are five Eliteserien fixtures on Sunday, and I've picked out three best bets across the slate of matches.

Bodo/Glimt are on a run of five straight wins and look set to maintain that form this weekend, while I'm expecting plenty goals in my other two picks.

Ham-Kam v Bodo/Glimt

Norwegian Eliteserien

13:30

Bodo/Glimt to Win

Taking Bodo/Glimt to simply win this game looks a good starting spot for any acca in the Eliteserien this Sunday. The defending Eliteserien champions will be the top seed in final Champions League qualifying at the end of the month, but before that they will hope to tighten their pursuit of Viking at the top of the table.

As things stand, Bodo/Glimt have the title in their hands and are on a run of five straight wins domestically. They’ve won these games by a 15:4 margin, with three victories to nil.

However, the hosts have only lost one of their five games since new manager Thomas Mhyre took over. The former Everton goalkeeper hasn’t changed too much yet at the club, and their style remains quite physical and pragmatic. Four of the five games under Mhyre have gone under 2.5 goals, and the likely approach will be to try and frustrate Glimt and keep it tight.

Ham-Kam do have one of the weakest squads in the league, though, and the gulf in class should be too much. From a metrics perspective, Ham-Kam have both the third worst xG and xGA in the league at 1.28 and 1.93 respectively. This is a poor team and we should expect an away win as a bare minimum.

Molde v Bryne

Norwegian Eliteserien

16:00

Over 2.5 Goals

The home side Molde have endured a very disappointing season. They are down in 13th position, just above the drop zone, but they do have some games in hand. Molde have had a two week break since their last fixture, which should have done them some good. They beat Stromsgodset 4-1 which was one of their best performances of the season. The opposition was one of the poorest in the division, but Molde now have a decent chance of racking up points in the next few weeks with some favourable fixtures.

This should be quite an open game of football. On the face of things, Molde should have too much superiority facing a newly promoted side. Despite their poor league position, this is still one of the top six squads in Norway and in the reverse fixture they comfortably won 3-0, with all of the goals coming before half time.

Typically, Bryne games have been good for BTTS yes recently, but there is a risk that Molde win by several goals to nil, so taking over 2.5 goals looks like the best bet for this game. They’ve lost successive games 1-3 and four of the last five Bryne games have gone over 3.5 goals in the Eliteserien.

Valerenga v Sandefjord

Norwegian Eliteserien

16:00

Over 2.5 Goals

This is an extraordinary season for Sandefjord who are in the dizzy heights of 6th place and continue to go from strength to strength. Their better results are at home where a 100% record is still maintained, but recent 6-0 and 3-2 wins can’t be ignored.

This is one of the highest scoring teams in the league with 31 goals. Only Bodo/Glimt and Viking have netted more goals and their firepower has been impressive. In Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson they possess one of the highest scoring players in the league (nine goals), he’s been great recently, scoring in each of his last two games.

Sandefjord now travel to a Valerenga outfit who will be hurting after getting well beaten 7-2 by Bodo last weekend. It was their worst result of the season, but understandable facing such a top class side. Even still, to concede 22 shots and 13 on target was worrying.

Valerenga are a newly promoted team but I think it’s fair to say more was expected of them this season. The club from the capital are on course to survive, but not by much, and are just one point above the relegation playoff spot. Over 2.5 goals looks like an excellent bet here. Sandefjord have the firepower but Valerenga should be more confident at home, where they beat Haugesund 3-0 last time out.
