Slick Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres has been in scintillating early-season form for Sporting and the 26-year-old, who has been averaging 2.05 shots on target domestically, showcased his considerable goal threat on the Champions League stage against Lille.

Gyokeres had three attempts against Les Dogues and scored from his single effort on target on matchday one, though his output could be even loftier against a PSV side that looked vulnerable defensively in their convincing loss to Juventus.

The Dutch champions allowed Juve to clock 15 attempts (six on target) in their 3-1 reverse in Turin and if their backline is similarly disorganised against Sporting, Gyokeres should have opportunities to let fly.

Sporting’s successful gameplan against Lille on Champions League matchday one included instructions to press aggressively from the front and each member of the Leões’s front three finished the contest with at least two fouls.

Winger Trincao committed three fouls while carrying out his defensive duties for Sporting in their 2-0 triumph.

Luuk de Jong was a peripheral figure in PSV’s Group Stage opener against Juventus, mustering just two attempts and an xGF of just 0.10 in the Boeren’s 3-1 loss in Turin, though the veteran frontman could be more involved against Sporting.

The 34-year-old, who is PSV’s designated penalty-taker, has been averaging a better 1.54 shots on target per 90 in the Eredivisie this term and De Jong has racked up more attempts in total (19) than any of his team-mates in the Dutch top-flight since the summer.

De Jong has made a decent impact on the continent in each of his last two club campaigns for PSV, averaging 1.05 and 1.70 shots on target per 90 in 2022/23 and 2023/24 respectively, and he is backed to find his range at least once again here.

Daniel Braganca is a ground duel specialist for Sporting and the bustling midfielder has been averaging 1.22 fouls while drawing 1.95 himself per 90 in the Primeira Liga this season, highlighting just how central to the action the 25-year-old has been.

In the Champions League against Lille in mid-September, Braganca was in the thick of things again and was fouled three times by his opponents during another dynamic midfield display.

Braganca, who was fouled 2.55 times per 90 minutes in last year’s Europa League tournament is a top performer in this niche and offers excellent value to be kicked at least once in Eindhoven.

Viktor Gyokeres is one of Europe’s form strikers at present and the 26-year-old’s tally of 14 goals in his last ten appearances for club and country makes him one of the continent’s most prolific marksmen.

Gyokeres has already bagged a superb ten goals in just seven Primeira Liga appearances for Sporting this term, while the Swedish international is also up and running in the Champions League having notched on matchday one against Lille.

The centre-forward is supremely confident at the moment and we’re backing Gyokeres to maintain his searing early-season purple patch with another strike against PSV.

Guus Til is a box-crashing midfielder who provides attacking thrust from deeper positions for the Dutch champions and he was as threatening as any PSV player when he lodged 0.40 in xGF against Juventus on matchday one.

Til failed to find his range with either of his two shots in Turin, though he has been remarkably accurate domestically where he has been averaging 1.97 shots on target per 90 minutes.

Indeed, Til has landed 71.4% (10 of 14) of his total attempts on target for PSV in the Eredivisie and having hit five accurate attempts across his last two outings at the Phillips Stadion, the 26-year-old has excellent credentials in the shots on target market again here.

Holding midfielder Morten Hjulmand isn’t overworked from a defensive standpoint in most matches for a domestically dominant Sporting side, though the Dane does noticeably more heavy-lifting in tougher tests.

Hjulmand has already committed fouls in fixtures against Porto and Lille this term, while the 25-year-old also fouled four times while representing his country against Switzerland during the last international break.

Sporting are unlikely to have things all their own way in the Netherlands this week and Hjumland’s tackle and foul count should climb accordingly. Back the anchorman to give away at least two fouls in Eindhoven.

Pote has been a reliable source of goals, assists and match-changing moments for Sporting for several seasons now and the 26-year-old has been as influential as ever in the early exchanges of the 2024/25 campaign for the Portuguese champions.

Alongside chipping in with seven goal involvements, Pote has been averaging 5.16 shots and 1.07 shots on target in the Primeira Liga, while the attacking midfielder was also a menace against Lille in the Champions League, clocking four attempts against Les Dogues, two of which tested the goalkeeper.

Pote managed to get a shot on target in five of his first six starts for Sporting in all competitions overall since the summer and his consistency at the business end of the pitch makes him a prime contender to register another accurate effort against PSV.
