Over 2.5 Goals

Real Madrid have generally fared well against Osasuna over the last couple of seasons, scoring 15 goals alone across the last five face-offs. This bet landed in four of those games, only falling short of this mark when they met at the El Sadar Stadium in February (1-1).

However, Jude Bellingham received his marching orders in the first half of that match, for a fiery argument with the referee. Even still, Real Madrid managed to accumulate 1.38 xG, slightly lower than the hosts’ total of 1.88 xG - over 2.5 goals was unfortunate not to land.

Kylian Mbappe to Score Anytime

Kylian Mbappe had an extremely quiet Club World Cup tournament, registering just a single goal from three appearances. However, after a month of rest the Frenchman returned with a brace in a pre-season friendly against Tirol, hopefully a sign he has returned to full fitness and is match-ready.

With 31 goals in 34 starts, Mbappe earned the Pichichi trophy in his debut season in the Spanish top-flight. His scoring frequency of a league goal every 94 minutes, paired with the fact that he overperformed his xG by five goals, highlights his finishing ability, and I back him to start the season well.

• Over 2.5 goals landed in 12 out of 19 league matches at the Bernabeu last season.

• Mbappe averaged 4.7 shots per 90 and 2.5 shots on target per 90 in La Liga last season - both league-highs.

• The Frenchman racked up 43 goals in 56 appearances in his first season in Spain.

After finishing four points behind rivals Barcelona last season, Real Madrid are priced at 1.18 to get off to a winning start, while Osasuna are 13.0 to cause a shock upset.

Teething Problems at the Bernabeu

Xabi Alonso will lead Real Madrid into the new season, filling the void left by the legendary Carlo Ancelotti, who departed as the most successful manager in the club’s illustrious history in terms of trophies won. Alonso faces the daunting task of maintaining the club’s winning tradition but also imposing his own tactical identity on the squad.

During the Club World Cup, Alonso introduced an unfamiliar 5-2-3 system, a notable shift from Los Blancos’ usual approach. The tactical change brought about some early difficulties in fluidity and defensive organisation, leading to some lacklustre performances. Real were fortunate to edge their way to the semi-finals before being decimated by PSG, in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat. With the arrivals of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and Alvaro Carreras, the defensive unit has undergone significant changes, and it may take time for everything to click into place.

🔴 Change on the Horizon at Pamplona

Osasuna were denied a European spot on the final day last season after they drew to Alaves, subjecting them to a 9th-place finish in La Liga. Vicente Moreno has since moved on from his managerial position, to join Al-Wakrah of the Qatar Stars League, with Alessio Lisci taking his place.

Lisci was also left dejected on the final day of last season, as his Mirandes side were beaten by Real Oviedo in the La Liga 2 play-off final. The 39-year-old typically went with a back-five approach, so changes are certain to occur at the El Sadar Stadium this season.

Ante Budimir will likely remain a constant though as the focal point upfront. He scored 21 goals last season, 3rd in the La Liga scoring charts behind Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski. Osasuna are heavily reliant on the Croatian international, who scored the equaliser against Real Madrid when these sides last met.

📊 Real Madrid v Osasuna H2H

Osasuna last beat Real Madrid back in 2011 - Los Blancos have tasted massive success in this head-to-head matchup. There have been 19 goals in the last five meetings between these two, an average of 3.8 goals per game.
