Aldosivi v Atlético Tucumán
🏟
Saturday 16th July – 01:30AM KO
Aldosivi seems to have improved since manager Leandro Somoza came in, although they are still bottom of the table. They first won against Somoza’s old team, Rosario Central. Last week they even took a 2-0 lead away at Defensa y Justicia and only gave the game away after they got a man sent off. They did meet two teams that have also been struggling badly and were still mostly pushed back in both games, so I don’t think they will suddenly turn things around, but this is also how they surprisingly made the play-offs last season.
For Patricio Boolsen, it was his second red card in this season that has only been running for a month. The centre back will be suspended for this game. There is also still the saga with Martin Cuateruccio. The striker, top goalscorer last season, wants to get a move up, but so far all negotiations fell through. He isn’t playing any more, but the case is still hanging above the side and they don’t really have cash to sign new players until he is gone.
For Atlético Tucumán the season looks very different. Tucumán haven’t been playing brilliant, but they haven’t given anything away and they haven’t lost a single game. Since Lucas Pusineri took over in April, they only lost once in 12 games. The defence lead by Bolivian national team goalkeeper Carlos Lampe has been rock solid and the three goals conceded in the first seven games underline that. For me, Tucumán are miles favourites to win this game, so I’d bet on them. I’d put in a small safety measure for if they can’t find the goal, because the seven goals in seven games hasn’t been that promising.

Arsenal Sarandí v Platense
🏟
Saturday 16th July – 1:30AM KO
The other side that have so far proven to be unbeatable this season are Platense. With the experienced Mauro Zaraté in the attacking line, they look a lot stronger than last season. Zaraté missed the last game due to a minor injury, but will be back for this one. That is necessary because they have suffered a blow in attack with the long injury for Gonzalo Bergessio. They are trying to sign a replacement, but that has proven to be difficult so far.
For Arsenal Sarandí, the season is also going better than expected. They lost the first match, but that was followed by four draws and the last two games ended in a victory. They lost two decent players with Cristian Colman and Leonel Picco. Despite that, they did manage to beat Patronato last game, but they were on the back foot for most of that game and were lucky to take the victory there. Arsenal climbed to the top half of the table with that result and took some distance to the relegation zone, but they still look vulnerable. Arsenal will be without Lucas Brochero, a 23-year-old striker, who has mostly been a sub, but someone who is projected to take Colman’s place.
I think Arsenal are not quite good enough to unravel the steady Platense side at this moment, so I’d recommend a bet on Platense getting a result here.

Boca Juniors v Talleres de Córdoba
🏟
Sunday 17th July – 12:30AM KO
The league winners from last season, Boca Juniors are in trouble. Manager Sebastián Battaglia brought them the title, but the elimination in the Copa Libertadores at the hands of Corinthians and bad start of this season cost him. It doesn’t help that there is a power battle going on with Vice-president and club legend Roman Riquelme on one side and several players (including captain Carlos Izquierdoz) and the former manager on the other side.
Interim manager Hugo Ibarra was promoted from the reserve team. Despite losing his first match at San Lorenzo, he got the nod from the board to become the new manager. It looks a bit of gamble and rumours are that Boca Juniors don’t really want to invest much in the squad after the Copa elimination and went for a cheap option as new manager, hoping he’ll exceed expectations.
Most of his career Ibarra was a player at Boca, so he will have some credit with the fans, but it is a risky choice. They’ll face another team with troubles in this game. The flamboyant Pedro Caixinha did bring them to the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores, but then he decided to rest his side in the league, in which they are next to bottom. So Caixinha is also under pressure.
Talleres will be playing their strongest XI in this game. The last couple of games, that hasn’t been the case, so they are definitely stronger than in the last weeks. Boca Juniors will be without captain Carlos Izquierdoz, who seems to be pushed out of the club over the power struggle and Marcos Rojo, so their defence is not at top level. Despite Talleres disastrous start of the season, I expect they can get a result against a Boca Juniors that has a lot of internal unrest.
