Scotland v Iceland

🗓️

Kick Off: Friday 6th June at 19:45

🏆

Competition: International Friendly

  • Scotland have lost just one of their last five matches.

  • Iceland have lost each of their last three matches.

  • Scott McTominay has scored 11 goals across his last 23 appearances for Scotland.

  • Orri Oskarsson has scored in each of his last two outings for Iceland.

Scotland begin their preparations for their World Cup qualifying campaign with a friendly against Iceland on Friday night.

Steve Clarke’s side were relegated to Nations League Group B when losing 3-0 to Greece in their last outing, while Iceland were demoted to Group C after suffering a 5-2 aggregate loss to Kosovo.

The pre-match odds suggest Scotland will win with room to spare, with a home success priced at 1.62, while Iceland are as big as 4.75 to triumph.

Meanwhile, the Over/Under 2.5 goal line points towards a low-scoring affair, with unders favoured at 1.75.

Scotland need to rebuild some confidence following their 3-0 loss to Greece and they should have enough to secure a win over Iceland. Steve Clarke’s side were enjoying a four-game unbeaten run before losing to Greece. As for Iceland, they have lost four of their last five matches, conceding multiple goals in each of those defeats.

Scott McTominay has been a talismanic figure for Scotland in recent years, scoring 11 times across his last 23 appearances. McTominay stands out for a goal or an assist at 2.30, while a minimum of one shot on target appeals at 1.33.

🔵 Scotland Looking to Return to Winning Ways

Scotland will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their Nations League play-off defeat to Greece. The Scots lost the xG battle 1.36 to 0.98, with Greece registering 13 shots, 5 of which hit the target.

Despite that bruising setback, losing 3-1 on aggregate and being relegated to Nations League B, Steve Clarke’s side ended the league phase of their Nations League campaign in impressive fashion, holding Portugal to a draw before defeating both Croatia and Poland. It’s also worth noting that Scotland triumphed in the first leg of their play-off tie with Greece before losing the return match in Glasgow.

Iceland Out-Of-Sorts

Iceland are currently in a rut that stretches back to last summer. The Nordic nation were soundly beaten both home and away by Kosovo in their Nations League play-off tie. The manner of their second-leg defeat will have been a major cause for concern. Kosovo claimed a 3-1 victory in Reykjavik, peppering their hosts' goal with 21 shots, including 10 on-target efforts.

Consequently, Iceland have now lost each of their last three matches, including a heavy 4-1 defeat on UK soil when facing Wales in the Nations League at the tail end of 2024.

📊 Scotland v Iceland Head-to-Head Key Stats

Scotland and Iceland have not crossed paths on the international circuit since way back in qualification for the 2010 World Cup. Scotland won both of those matches by a scoreline of 2-1. The only other two meetings between the pair were during Euro 2004 qualification, with Scotland again coming out on top both home and away.

With no recent head-to-head stats to go on, Iceland’s 4-1 loss to Wales late last year could act as a useful barometer for trying to gauge how this game could go, as Scotland will represent a similar standard of opposition.
