Aberdeen v Celtic
Kick Off: Saturday 24th May at 15:00
Celtic stand 90 minutes away from completing a domestic treble, with Aberdeen standing between the Hoops and Scottish Cup glory.
Brendan Rodgers’ side freewheeled late in the Premiership season but still won the title by a clear 15 points from Rangers.
This contrasts to an Aberdeen side that start this game as a rank outsider, after a disastrous end of the season that culminated in a supporter throwing a seat and hitting defender Jack MacKenzie following last weekend’s defeat at Dundee United.
⭐ Aberdeen v Celtic Best Bets
Celtic (-1) Handicap @ 1.83
Celtic start this match as comprehensive favourites having won four successive matches against Aberdeen – doing so comfortably. Across these fixtures, the Hoops have scored an impressive 17 goals and have won each of the last two encounters against Jimmy Thelin’s men by the emphatic scoreline of 5-1.
With the Dons on a four-match losing streak coming into this game and questions being asked of the manager, they are curiously under pressure. Aberdeen wilted when these sides met at Hampden earlier this season, going down 6-0 in a League Cup semi-final, and there are few who expect this match to be close.
Celtic have won 33 of their 46 domestic games this season by more than a single goal. Expect them to add to that collection here.
👕 Aberdeen v Celtic Predicted XI

🔍 Aberdeen v Celtic Players to Watch
🟢 Adam Idah
Celtic’s threat comes from all over the field, yet with 1.9 shots on target per 90 in the Premiership, no player was as regularly menacing as the Ireland international star.
He comes into this game as one of Scotland’s form strikers, netting in four of his last five games, including the recent clash with Aberdeen on 14th May. He played just 21 minutes of that encounter but still managed to clock up an impressive three shots, two of which found the target.
Prior to last weekend’s meaningless clash against St Mirren, he had been putting up big shooting numbers, managing at least two shots on target in four straight matches.
🟢 Alistair Johnston
Canada international right back Alistair Johnston is better known for his assists than his shooting, but he’s still a big price to have at least one effort at Hampden. After all, five of his 19 shots in the Premiership have come against Aberdeen, while three of his nine shots on target have come against the Dons.
Only a substitute when the sides met 10 days ago, he will go up against Graeme Shinnie at left back for the first time, and this is likely to be a matchup he feels good about, with the Aberdeen man much more typically a defensive midfielder in recent seasons.

📊 Aberdeen v Celtic Form and Stats
Aberdeen could scarcely have finished the season in poorer form. Following the split, they edged Hibs to give themselves a strong chance of reaching the Europa League but then suffered four successive defeats.
In their last three matches, they have conceded an alarming 11 goals, with defensive weaknesses very much serving to undermine their efforts of late.
The ill-feeling and frustration from the supporters is palpable after a winning streak of 13 games at the beginning of the campaign. Tempers boiled over following last weekend’s 2-1 loss against Dundee United, with Jack MacKenzie struck by a seat thrown by a supporter.
Jimmy Thelin’s club have found the going particularly rough against Celtic after drawing 2-2 against the Hoops in their first meeting of the season back in October – a match that seemed to herald them as genuine title contenders. In the end, they could scarcely have failed to live up to that billing any further.
The slide really started when they were defeated 6-0 by Celtic in the League Cup semi-final, and they have subsequently lost twice by a 5-1 margin to Brendan Rodgers’ side, both home and away.
In three of the four matches they have played v the Hoops, they have picked up at least three cards, while on two occasions they have seen five.
Aberdeen have not beaten a Premiership club over 90 minutes in their Scottish Cup run. The Dons have reached this stage, only overcoming one top-flight side in the form of Hearts. Their extra-time winner from Oday Dabbagh came only when the Jambos were reduced to nine men.
Celtic are chasing a ninth treble and a third successive Scottish Cup. Their grip on the trophy has been strong over nearly a decade, lifting the prize six times in the last eight seasons and seven of the last 11.
Domestically, this season, they have been streets ahead of their rivals, winning 36 of their 46 matches this term. Remarkably, 33 of those victories have come by at least two goals, with only Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup getting to within a single strike of Rodgers’ side in knockout competition.
Goals have come from across the team. No fewer than five players (Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah, Reo Hatate and the now-departed Kyogo Furuhashi) scored at least 10 league goals while Arne Engles chipped in nine and Callum McGregor managed eight.
Also worth noting is the fine assist tally of right back Alistair Johnston, 10. He is an enormous 6.0 to deliver another assist here.
Celtic overwhelmingly dominate their games. In the league, they posted 75.1% of the ball and had 18.8 shots per game. What was most remarkable was the efficiency of Rodgers’ side. They scored 14% of their shots and 37% of their shots on target this season.
Another eye-catching figure is the number of cards they picked up. Over the course of the season, they were handed only 33 and were the only club not to see a single red card in the league. By contrast, Aberdeen had the second-poorest disciplinary record in the division, receiving 92 cards.
