England welcome Serbia on Thursday, with Thomas Tuchel looking to extend his perfect record in qualifying so far. England have won all six of their matches without conceding a goal.

Serbia need a positive result here after falling one point behind Albania in the group, with the two nations battling for second place to keep their World Cup dreams alive.

England to Win @ 1.28

England have breezed through their qualifying campaign, winning all six of their matches to nil in a group that contains Albania, Serbia, Latvia and Andorra. England were always expected to top this group, but their dominance in doing so has been notable.

The last two camps have been the most promising, with Tuchel’s side registering four wins in this period, netting 15 goals in the process (3.75 per game), and keeping clean sheets in all of these games. There is a slight concern that England may take their foot off the gas now that they have confirmed their spot at the World Cup next summer. However, the individual motivation for the players in the camp will still be there to ensure that they stay in the frame for the World Cup squad.

England dominated Serbia in the clash between these sides back in September, with the Three Lions coming away 5-0 winners on that occasion. Serbia were reduced to 10 men in that game, which exaggerated the scoreline, but England had already earned a 3-0 lead by the time Milenkovic was dismissed in the 72nd minute. Tuchel should be able to oversee a seventh straight win in qualifying here.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.66

This is quite generously priced and worth exploring as a single when considering England’s dominant record in qualifying, as well as the most recent meeting between the sides, which saw England come away 5-0 winners in Belgrade.

England have netted 18 goals across their six qualifying matches so far this term (3.0 per game), with 3+ goals landing in three of these games. It’s worth noting that England are yet to concede a goal in qualifying, which may affect the chances of a high goal tally here - but the strength that England have shown in the attacking third gives them a really strong chance of covering this line on their own here.

This is also a must win game for Serbia, as Albania are currently one point ahead of them. The visitors need a positive result and could be forced to take more risks than usual if they're chasing the game.

Marcus Rashford Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 1.50

Marcus Rashford has a real opportunity to nail down a starting spot on the left wing during this camp, with Anthony Gordon dropping out of the squad due to injury. Rashford’s stock is already probably a bit higher than Gordon’s in Tuchel’s eyes, due to his experience with the Three Lions and impressive form so far this season.

Rashford has settled in well at Barcelona, registering 13 goal contributions across his 16 matches in all competitions. He’s had 39 shots across his 12 appearances in LaLiga (4.35 per 90), with 14 of these attempts finding the target (1.56 per 90).

Rashford wasn’t quite able to break into the starting eleven during the last camp, with Gordon performing well, and scoring, across the two games - so Rashford may feel as though he’s still got a bit to prove to Tuchel here. Rashford has netted 18 goals across his 66 caps for England, only Harry Kane (76) has scored more goals for his country in the current squad than the winger.

Dusan Vlahovic Over 0.5 Fouls Committed @ 1.28

Serbia were forced into committing 11 fouls when these sides clashed in September, with England running out 5-0 winners on that occasion. Vlahovic committed one of these infringements from nine duels and was up against Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa on that day.

Vlahovic is averaging 0.80 fouls committed per 90 in Serie A this season, and is likely to have to chase down lost causes all on his own, with Serbia’s main tactic likely to be going direct into their dangerous frontman.

I always like backing a striker that will play at the head of a low block to commit fouls or make tackles, they are the first line of defence and often don’t have much support when the ball is lumped up to them - increasing the chances of a foul being committed.

Marc Guehi is expected to miss this match, but Vlahovic will still face up against one of the most prolific centre backs in the league when it comes to winning fouls in Ezri Konsa. Konsa has won 12 fouls across his 10 Premier League appearances this term (1.23 per 90) and has won 11 fouls across his six appearances during this qualifying campaign (2.13 per 90).

📈 England v Serbia Form & Tactics

England are really maturing under Tuchel and recent camps have shown this development, with England winning each of their last four matches since losing 3-1 to Senegal in a friendly at Wembley. England certainly look a bit more exciting in the final third, with comprehensive victories against the likes of Serbia, Wales and Latvia.

The main concern for England will be the calibre of opponent that they’ve been facing throughout Tuchel’s reign. These victories have all been against sides that England would have been expected to beat, with the defeat against Senegal being particularly alarming as an example of what can happen when you don’t test yourself against the top sides consistently in international football.

Serbia have had a poor qualifying campaign, they were tipped as the second strongest side in this group, but it’s Albania that have taken the initiative for now and sit second in the group - just one point ahead of Serbia. Serbia have actually been ok on the road so far in qualifying, with two wins and one draw from their three away matches, though this is quite clearly their toughest assignment in the group.

📔 England v Serbia Formation & Team News

Tuchel has been tinkering with the side to try and find his favourite solution. One thing worth noting about Tuchel is that he doesn’t tend to give a lot of weight to reputation, an example of this could be in the middle of the park with players like Rogers and Anderson playing well for the Three Lions right now - and that may mean that Jude Bellingham has to earn his role back in the side, with a few run ins already between the Galactico and the England boss.

England have been lining up in a 4-2-3-1, though their defensive shape hasn’t really been tested in this qualifying group, as we’ve seen England face up against low blocks that sit deep. This sets up a pattern where England always have the ball and are the ones creating chances, the only time we’ve seen England on the back foot in a game under Tuchel was their 3-1 defeat against Senegal.

Serbia are likely to line up in a 5-4-1 or a formation that accommodates a deep low block. This is the shape they went with in their 5-0 defeat to England back in September, and a shape that will allow them to try and be direct, as well as create scoring opportunities from crosses - both of which are key aspects of Serbia’s attacking plan.
