After losing out in the Nations League final back in June, the Euro 2024 winners Spain looked back to their best during the September international break, registering successive victories to kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Having kept clean sheets in both of those games while racking up a total of nine goals, performances could not have been more convincing, and it’s going to be a mammoth task for Georgia to take any points from Luis de la Fuente’s side on Saturday night.

Spain v Georgia

World Cup Qualifiers

19:45

Over 2.5 Goals

However, the Georgians have proven themselves to be a capable side on the break, and will be hopeful to at least get on the scoresheet. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia has been called up to the squad by Willy Sagnol despite picking up an injury for PSG, so will be in contention to start alongside Georges Mikautadze up front. Georgia scored five goals in their two games during the September international break, meaning they have now scored in eight successive matches.

But keeping this Spain side at bay is no easy task. Even without the likes of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, the Spaniards have plenty of attacking options to call upon, and their fluid attacking style under Luis de la Fuente generally lends itself to backing goals.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in each of their last eight matches, with both teams scoring in six of those - in that sample, they have seen an average of 5.1 goals per game.

📈 Spain v Georgia Form & Stats

Georgia came close to completing a remarkable comeback against Turkey in their World Cup qualifying opener. After falling 3-0 behind by the 52nd minute, they battled back to 3-2 and were unlucky not to take something from the game. The visitors managed just six shots in total, while Georgia carved out two big chances and 15 efforts at goal - they were unfortunate to leave with no points in the end.

They quickly made amends in their next outing, cruising to a 3-0 home win over Bulgaria. Both Kvaratskhelia and Mikautadze found the back of the net, sealing an ideal result that lifted Georgia into second place in Group E.

Spain also managed a 3-0 victory against Bulgaria, but a 6-0 victory against Turkey in Konya was the standout result of their September fixtures. Mikel Merino bagged himself a hat-trick from midfield, while Mikel Oyarzabal was another standout performer, picking up three assists. La Roja accrued a total of ten big chances, highlighting just how effective Luis de la Fuente’s side are in the final third.
