Luzern v Lugano
🏟
Sunday 3rd April – 1:15PM KO
FC Luzern will undoubtedly have half an eye on their match with Super League relegation rivals Grasshoppers next weekend but first have to negotiate a tricky home match against Lugano to ensure they keep themselves within touching distance of safety. With five points separating the two teams and GC in a poor run of form, every point is crucial in avoiding the play-off for Luzern.
FCL have improved a lot since the winter break but their Achilles heel was evident again against St. Gallen last time out as they led by two within the opening ten minutes before conceding three before half-time to lose the match. They score enough goals having only failed to find the net on five occasions this season but their inability to keep a clean sheet, they’ve kept only three in twenty-seven matches, is much of the reason that they’re in their current predicament.
Lugano have European football in sight after they bested Lausanne at the Cornaredo to draw level with Young Boys in third. It was a good display overall with two goals in the first half and a third with fifteen minutes to play to secure a 3-1 victory against the side at the bottom. They have now won four of their last five matches and haven’t dropped points to a team outside of the top three other than St. Gallen since October. An impressive achievement when you also consider St. Gallen are currently top of the form standings.
The visitors will be confident heading to the swissporarena. They have already beaten Luzern on three previous occasions this season with an aggregate score of 8-4 and haven’t lost at this venue in their last six visits. I believe they’ll extend that run to seven this weekend.

FC Basel v Young Boys
🏟
Sunday 3rd April – 3:30PM KO
It certainly wasn’t their ambition back in July but FC Basel can take a huge step to securing second place in the league in their home match against Young Boys on Sunday. A win would already mark a big improvement overall for a Basel side that only need three more points to match their entire tally from last season.
FCB do still have faint hopes that FC Zurich’s twelve-point gap will slip in the closing weeks and they are doing all they can to put the pressure on after their spirited comeback win over Grasshoppers made it three wins in a row in the league for the first time since August.
YB continued to exhibit the same old problems as they lost at home to FCZ by a 2-1 scoreline in their previous game. They scored, as they always do, but conceded for an eighth consecutive match. Their first defeat against Zurich in Bern since 2014 made it four in a row without a win and the capital club now face a battle to not only claw back the five-point lead FCB have in second but also in keeping Lugano from taking the final European spot from their grasp, something that really would cause heads to roll in Bern.
It is always fun when these two meet and I expect no different this weekend. FCB are in better form but haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last ten attempts against YB. YB have scored in all but four games this season and have already put five goals past Basel in the last three matches which have also ended with both teams scoring. Two good, attacking sides that remain shaky defensively, the goals will flow here like they always do in this fixture.

Laussane v Servette
🏟
Sunday 3rd April – 3:30PM KO
It is derby day at the Tulliere but the excitement that normally accompanies this fixture has been replaced by a sense of dread for LS fans. They had some respite from their run of losses after drawing with YB recently but returned to old habits with the defeat away at Lugano. The result leaves them trailing even the safety buffer of the play-off by nine points and it is fair to say they would have to be near-perfect to prevent what seems like an inevitable relegation at the end of the season.
SFC seem to be well-versed in the art of winning derby matches in recent months. They beat Lausanne in Geneva in early February and recorded a home victory over Sion just before the break to make it three wins from their last five. This run also includes the memorable 1-0 home victory over Young Boys at the start of last month. It is all about now maintaining their place in the top-half for Alain Geiger’s men, especially with St. Gallen breathing down their neck in sixth.
The Genevans can be somewhat unpredictable but they, like almost everyone else, have enjoyed playing LS this season. They won in that aforementioned game earlier this year and also ran out 3-0 winners at this venue on their last visit. Lausanne haven’t won a single match since November 21st and that won’t change here. The only concern for SFC is that they’ve kept only two away clean sheets this season, I would choose then to cover yourself with the draw no bet here.
