Group D is proving an exciting group in the race for Euro 2024 qualification and both Turkey and Wales will see this as a big opportunity to go one step closer to securing their place for the tournament.
Turkey were the big disappointment at the last Euros and will be looking for some revenge against a Wales side that beat them 2-0 at the tournament. They were on the end of another 2-0 defeat against Croatia but victories in Armenia and Latvia have put them on the road to progression.
Wales got off to what they felt was a really positive start to qualifying, drawing 1-1 with group favourites Croatia away from home before a 1-0 win against Latvia. However, Friday’s 4-2 loss on home turf against Armenia was a big blow and has increased the pressure on Rob Page ahead of this one.
This is a big game involving one of the home nations so we’ve put together all the key information for you to make a more informed decision about what and who to include in your Turkey vs Wales bet builder, including our own bet builder tips at the bottom of this page.

Cengiz Under not shy in the final third
Turkey’s impressive defence has all but broken down since a horrific Euro 2020 campaign but they remain full of energy, full of experience, and have a front three that can cause most nations problems on their day.
Cengiz Under is the key man for Turkey. His spell in England with Leicester City didn’t go well for a number of reasons but his move to Marseille has coincided with a more confident player internationally. Under has managed 10 shots in three qualifiers so far and 20 shots in his last 5 appearances for his national team. He has almost managed three or more shots in eight of his last 15 appearances. He is pretty accurate too, finding the target in each of his last five international matches and 11 of his last 15.
At the moment, I have seen the environment in Samsun very well. I look forward to tomorrow. I also learned how a historical city Samsun is for Turkey. First of all, I am looking forward to tomorrow’s match. Just as the beautiful fans here brought Samsunspor to the Super League and a year If they have supported us throughout, then I am sure they will provide us with the same support in tomorrow’s game.”
Turkey coach Stefan Kuntz on the advantage of home support
He isn’t the only player to enjoy taking a shot, winger Kerem Akturkoglu managed a shot on target in 12 of his last 17 competitive matches for Turkey, including in two of his three qualification appearances. He is available at 4/7 to have a shot on target.
Merih Demiral is the other player to keep an eye on as Turkey look to keep their place at the top of the table. The 25-year-old centre-back has not only managed three shots (5/6 to have 1 or more) but also two shots on target (11/2 to have 1 or more) during qualification and has committed a foul in seven of his nine starts, including a whopping four against Armenia.
Turkey team news
Turkey manager Stefan Kuntz will no doubt be considering who continues in his starting XI after a 95th minute goal saved them from humiliation in Latvia.
Kuntz did play a strong XI for that game with Merih Demiral, Mehmet Celik, and Hakan Calhanoglu all starting. The primary decision could be around whether match-winner Irfan Kahveci forces his way into the starting XI in place of Galatasaray winger Kerem Akturkoglu.
Baris Yilmaz was one of the early arrivals onto the pitch and may start in place of Fenerbahce’s 18-year-old Arda Guler.
Wales hoping to kick on post-Bale
Wales head into this game knowing how important a victory will be but lacking a number of key tools in this post-Gareth Bale (and Chris Gunter) era.
Defensively, Wales are struggling and the open style of play hasn’t helped all too much. That has led Chris Mepham to be in the referee’s bad books on a number of occasions, committing two or more fouls in six of his last seven competitive starts. Ethan Ampadu is another to find himself receiving tickings off from referees, committing a foul in his last nine competitive starts for Wales, including two or more in six of those. They are available at evens and 4/7 to continue that here.
We showed our potential in March [by taking four points from a possible six], we are still a young group so there are going to be inconsistencies, there are going to be bumps along the way.”
Wales coach Rob Page on the potential in this Welsh squad
Wales team news
Rob Page curiously said that he set his team up to be too open against Armenia before admitting he would play the same XI again.
It won’t be possible to pick the same team again on Monday, however, thanks to Kieffer Moore’s red card and Ben Davies heading home for the birth of his child.
Neco Williams should be a straight swap at left-back having replaced Joe Rodon on 67 minutes against Armenia. David Brooks is the most likely replacement for Moore with James or Johnson moving into a striking position. Joe Morrell is the alternative, enabling Page to push Ramsey into a more attacking role.
Turkey v Wales Cheat Sheet
If you want to look elsewhere in your Turkey vs Wales bet builder, Harry Wilson is always good fun. The Fulham attacking midfielder plays a variety of roles for Wales but causes issues for opponents wherever he plays, being fouled in 12 of his last 13 starts and six times during his three qualification matches to date.
He’s not afraid to pull the trigger either, having eight shots in qualifying and managing a shot on target in both of his previous outings. It’s worth noting that this set-piece specialist no longer has to contend with Gareth Bale for the right to take the set-pieces he wins.

Turkey v Wales
The numbers tell us to expect cards in this game, not least because Turkey enter this fixture having picked up two cards in their Latvian encounter.
Turkey have picked up six cards in qualifying so far with six different players responsible for that total.
They will find themselves up against an open and raw Welsh attack that has so far drawn their opponents into nine cards in three matches. Daniel James, Harry Wilson, Aaron Ramsey and Brennan Johnson offer pace and/or skill in abundance meaning they will cause problems.
Merih Demiral is the main man in the Turkish defence these days and the Atalanta centre-back isn’t afraid to commit a challenge when necessary.
The 25-year-old has committed a foul in seven of his last nine competitive starts in a Turkey shirt and it’s not too different from his performances across the entire 22-23 season, committing 20 fouls in 21.57 90’s of football.
While he won’t have to tackle the giant Kieffer Moore, he will himself up against the pacey Brennan Johnson or Daniel James and will want to make his powerful frame known to his sleight opponent.
Chris Mepham gets aggressive when playing for Wales. The Bournemouth centre-half is a little harshly done by his team-mates in truth, the open set-up leading the Welsh defence needing to do more work than they would appreciate.
Still, Mepham has shown he’s not afraid to do the dirty work required, committing two or more fouls in each of his last five competitive appearances for Wales.
Mepham will have to cover the forward forays of Connor Roberts down Wales’ right-hand side and defend up against Kerem Akturkoglu and Mehmet Nayir, who have both been fouled over 3 times per 90 in qualification so far.
