Tournament Prediction: Round of 16
You can back Ukraine to be eliminated in the Round of 16 @ 1.83 with Paddy Power.
Displacing Belgium to get top spot in the group might be a challenge too far for this Ukraine team. Although they have acquitted themselves well against top nations, you would have to go back a long way for a result against any of the major nations competing at the tournament.
Ukraine will feel confident of progressing into the knockout stages with Romania and Slovakia to fend off in Group E, but they will likely lack the quality to reach the latter stages in Germany and we feel a Round of 16 exit is likely.
Perhaps partly in hope as well as expectation, Mykhailo Mudryk to be Ukraine’s top goalscorer at 13.0 with bet365 is very generous, considering the list of names at shorter odds or similar to him. 📖 How they qualified
Ukraine finished third in a tough group behind both England and Italy and gained entry to the tournament via the playoffs, after wins over Bosnia and Iceland.
They come into the tournament battle-hardened, having faced two top nations in their group and with two knockout games already under their belt.
👕 Players to watch
Mykhailo Mudryk has had a tough time at Chelsea so far, but given the upheaval at the club and his first season in England, this isn’t surprising.
He will relish the chance to become the star and main man for the national side once again and his record in qualifying suggests he can add to his goal tally for his country and make a real impact in this group.
Oleksandr Zinchenko has been rotated this season at Arsenal but is used primarily in midfield for the Ukraine, with 60 caps and an impressive nine goals, he’ll be needed both for his defensive work and his attacking capabilities.
A special mention also goes to the Girona pair of Artem Dovbyk and Viktor Tsyhankov. Dovbyk has had a phenomenal campaign in La Liga with 20 goals and seven assists in 33 games. Although Tsyhankov’s stats are a little more modest, he led the scoring charts for Ukraine in qualifying with three goals in seven matches as a winger.
