Ukraine and Iceland meet at the Stadion Wroclaw in Poland to decide which of the two nations will seal one of the last remaining spots at Euro 2024.
Sergiy Rebrov’s side, who are still playing on foreign soil following Russia’s invasion, only narrowly missed out on automatic qualification. They suffered only one defeat in Group C before being edged out by defending champions Italy. In a crunch encounter played in Leverkusen, Germany, at the end of the qualifying process, they were held to a scoreless draw by the Azzurri.
On Friday, meanwhile, they left it late to overcome Bosnia and Herzegovina but rallied dramatically in the last five minutes. Trailing to an own goal strikes from Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk turned the game in their favour.
Iceland had a seemingly more straightforward passage against Israel thanks to a 4-1 win against another team playing on neutral soil. It was not quite as plain sailing as the scoreline suggests, with their opponents missing a penalty to square the game at 2-2 before a late double from Albert Gudmundsson sealed his hat-trick and a big win.
It marked a spectacular return to form for a team that finished behind Luxembourg in their qualifying group, but can they hit those heights again?

🏆 Match stats: Ukraine to edge tight match
Ukraine are understandably hot favourites to get the win over 90 minutes in this game and book their place at Euro 2024 next summer.
This is a team, after all, that has won three of its last four matches, going undefeated in that time. Unlike Israel, they are also well versed in playing on neutral territory as a group, with a 1-1 draw against England in Wroclaw last September showing they have a positive history on this ground.
They do not have the soft underbelly that Israel have. In Andriy Lunin, they have one of Europe’s most in-form goalkeepers. Indeed, their biggest issue is likely to be scoring goals. Only Roman Yaremchuk is in double figures for international goals in the squad, although Dovbyk has scored in two of his last three competitive internationals.
Iceland, though, have not kept a clean sheet in their last three competitive games while they have not shut out any opponent on the road since beating Liechtenstein 7-0 this time last year.
They did beat their hosts 2-0 in a 2017 World Cup qualifier but were a significantly stronger team back then.
This is likely to be a low-scoring affair edged by the home side, and that is reflected in the match odds. Ukraine are 1.44 to get the win in normal time while Over 2.5 goals in the game is on offer at 1.95.
Predictions:
⚽ Ukraine to win @ 1.45
🎯 Shooting stats: Mudryk to pepper the Iceland goal
Neither side is expected to change their team around significantly from Friday’s matches, which should offer something of a clue to their main dangermen in this game.
Ukraine only mustered 12 shots against in Sarajevo but while their scorers were predictable, it was interesting to see where the majority of their efforts came from. Mykhailo Mudryk was well out in front in terms of his effort, having five shots. Yukhym Konoplya had two efforts from right-back while Vitalii Mykolenko had a shot from left-back too.
Mudryk having a single shot on target at 1.4 appears excellent value given how trigger-happy he is while the Chelsea winger is 2.88 to test the keeper twice or more.
What is a little surprising is how long the odds of Iceland having shots on target are. Albert Gudmundsson is priced at 1.73 coming off his hat trick at the weekend, when he chanced his luck on six occasions, a personal season high.
Iceland’s other six shots on target against Israel were spread through their team. Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, who plays his football in France with Lille, is the likeliest candidate to threaten Andriy Lunin’s goal beyond Gudmundsson. He averaged 1.08 shots on target per 90 in the group stage and worked the Israel keeper on Friday. An attack-minded player, odds of 2.1 are generous.
Predictions:
⚽ Mykhailo Mudryk to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.40
⚽ Mykhailo Mudryk to have 2+ shots on target @ 2.88
⚽ Albert Gudmundsson to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.73
⚽ Albert Gudmundsson to have 2+ shots on target @ 4.33
🛑 Foul stats: Mudryk to continue foul spree
Vitalii Mykolenko was the only starting Ukraine outfield player not to commit a foul against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which makes his odds of 1.2 seem light. This is particularly the case given that multiple of his teammates gave away several fouls over the course of the match, with Illia Zabarnyi, Volodymyr Brazhko and Mudryk all committing three offences.
Brazhko was making his international debut but for Mudryk, such a high foul count is common. The Chelsea winger has averaged 2.29 fouls per 90 in qualifying, giving away at least a couple of free kicks in each of his last four internationals. With odds of 2.3 on him doing so again, this looks like an excellent price for a Ukraine bet builder.
Iceland committed 13 fouls against Israel, with seven of their outfield starters giving away at least one free kick.
Victor Palsson and Arnor Sigurdsson, who both gave away two fouls on Friday, are both priced at 1.44 to give away just one here.
Palsson looks a particularly appealing price given he is up against Mudryk, who was Ukraine’s most fouled player in the group stage, winning 1.43 free kicks per match. The Eupen defender is 3.1 to give away two free kicks.
Predictions:
⚽ Mykhailo Mudryk to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.25
⚽ Mykhailo Miudryk to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.30
⚽ Victor Palsson to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.44
⚽ Victor Palsson to commit 2+ fouls @ 3.10
