Uruguay have been creating chances at will at this Copa America. They’ve forced each opposition goalkeeper they’ve faced into at least five saves in their group stage matches. Alisson had to make five saves against Colombia and despite a 4-1 victory against Paraguay, was still required to make a save on three occasions. We expect Uruguay to cause Brazil problems at the back and create quality chances as they have been doing and this seems rather generous at the prices.

Uruguay have picked up fewer cards than their opponents in all three of their group games so far and averaged just 1.1 bookings per game in their last 10 fixtures. Brazil picked up more yellow cards than their opponents in their last two Copa America games and averaged three cards per game over a 10-game sample. We anticipate Uruguay causing a lot of problems to this Brazilian defence in a heated rivalry that could spark up very quickly but the Brazilians are more likely to see the referee take action. The game is being officiated by Argentine, Dario Herrera, who averages 4.91 cards per game.

Uruguay have registered 24 shots on target during their three group stage matches, an average of eight per game. Their remarkable consistency has shone through with their aggressive, pressing style and the sparkling form of their forward line. Colombia had six shots on target in their game against the Brazilians and Paraguay managed seven shots on target against them. In a pre-tournament warm-up game, the USA also hit six against the Selecao. Former Man City star, Sergio Aguero has talked up Uruguay’s chances, saying they are the only team that can stop Argentina in the tournament and an impressive performance against Brazil will only further that claim.

The Uruguayans are considered one of the in-form teams in world football right now. Under Marcelo Bielsa, they are a team transformed and have picked up some very impressive scalps in the last calendar year, winning 2-0 on the road against Argentina after beating Brazil 2-0 the month before. With three wins out of three in the group stage and nine goals scored, they will take some stopping and Brazil will have to be at their very best to avoid defeat here. At the odds, we think Uruguay are a generous price and would make them shorter favourites.

🛑 Bruno Guimaraes to commit 3+ fouls

Bruno Guimaraes has been persistently fouling in his Copa America appearances so far, with four against Colombia, four against Paraguay and three against Costa Rica. He gave away two fouls against Uruguay when they played in October of last year. In recent games, Tyler Adams fouled twice for the USA in midfield against the Uruguayans and Villamil Cortez also picked up two fouls for Bolivia in opposition. With the added jeopardy of this being a knockout game and the historic rivalry between the two sides, we don’t think it's a stretch for Guimaraes to commit at least 3 fouls in what should be a scrappy and intense game.

🟨 Over 5.5 cards

📈 Odds: 1.83

There were eight yellow cards issued in the last game between these two sides and this line has landed in four of the last five fixtures between the two nations. Dario Herrera who we’ve mentioned already is not shy at giving out cards, at just under five cards per game on average. In general terms, there is an uptick of yellow cards from 1.8 per match in the group stages to 3.2 in the knockout phase. If the Euros can be taken as an example, what we have seen is when two strong teams face up at this stage, the tactical fouling increases, as was the case in the Germany v Spain game on Friday, with nine yellow cards shown within the 90 minutes.
