📈 Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Form & Stats

Sunderland have been quite hit-and-miss in their recent games. They were on the receiving end of a massive FA Cup upset, eliminated by Port Vale in the round of 16, before following that up with another 1-0 loss against Brighton in the league. That was Sunderland’s third successive loss at the Stadium of Light - obliterating the idea that their home ground had become a fortress. However, Sunderland bounced back with a huge result, beating bitter rivals Newcastle 2-1, which was much-needed. The Black Cats are sitting comfortably 11th in the table, and will hope to push for a top-half finish.

Tottenham have had much less to cheer about, and there is only more uncertainty surrounding the club as they await De Zerbi’s debut this weekend. The former Brighton man surely cannot be worse than his predecessor - Igor Tudor was in charge for eight games, and six of those ended in defeat. His only win came against Atletico Madrid, but Spurs were still eliminated on aggregate from the Champions League despite that result. There is a lot of pressure on De Zerbi’s shoulders to improve Spurs defensively, and they are in desperate need of three points given the table context.

📔 Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Formation & Team News

Le Fee was struggling with a knock prior to the international break, but he has had plenty of time to recover so should return to the starting eleven here. Habib Diarra could shift out to the right wing, with Chemsdine Talbi on the left. Noah Sadiki and Granit Xhaka should continue in the double pivot, while Reinildo could be an option to start at left back, which would see Trai Hume return to his more natural right back position this weekend.

Tottenham still have a lengthy injury list, with Guglielmo Vicario, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus all sidelined. Antonin Kinsky looks set to start in goal for the first time since his horror show at the Metropolitano. Romero will lead as captain, alongside Micky Van De Ven and potentially Kevin Danso at the back. Archie Gray and Pape Sarr are likely to continue as the midfield duo.
