Watford v Luton
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 23rd February at 12:00
🏆
Competition: Championship
📺
Watch Live: Sky Sports +
Watford and Luton Town are set to face off in a Championship match on Sunday, a fixture known as the M1 derby in some quarters.
In their most recent encounter, Luton Town secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Watford at Kenilworth Road, but they are winless in their last 11 league games. Watford picked up an impressive 1-0 win away at Middlesbrough last weekend.
⭐ Watford v Luton Best Bet
Bottom of the table Luton have picked up 23 of their 28 points at home. The mathematicians amongst you will have worked out therefore that The Hatters have only picked up 5 points from a possible 48 away from, with 1 win and 2 draws. 4 of those points came in their first 3 away games, which means it’s just 1 point picked up in their last 13 away games.
Watford’s home form over the course of the season is strong, but recently it has dipped, with 4 defeats on the bounce at Vicarage Road. 2 of those came against the current top 2, so no shame there, and the other 2 were Norwich and Preston who are solid mid-table sides. They have generally managed to dispatch sides in the bottom third of the table, beating Oxford, Portsmouth, Derby and Stoke… They should be too strong for Luton here.
👕 Watford v Luton Predicted XI

🔍 Watford v Luton Players to Watch
🟠 Imran Louza
Moroccan midfielder Louza has 5 yellow cards to his name this season. He commits 1.9 fouls per 90 on average, and that may increase here in a derby game.
Luton new boy Thelo Aasgaard, likely to be tasked with linking midfield and attack, has been fouled 7 times in 4 appearances so far, and looks the prime candidate for a Louza ‘reducer’. He looks a nice price to go in the book at 3.50.
⚪️ Mark McGuiness
Watford have the 2nd highest total of goals conceded from set pieces per game, and the 2nd highest xG against from set pieces in the Championship. Luton have scored the most set pieces goals per game, and are second for both xG from set pieces and shots taken from set pieces.
Centre back McGuiness has 3 goals to his name this season, all from set pieces. He averages a shot per 90, so hopefully he will get a chance to score on Sunday.

💻 Watford v Luton Form and Tactics
Watford were walloped 0-4 by Leeds the last time they played at Vicarage Road, but there is not much shame in that given that the league leaders are comfortably the best side in the division.
Tom Cleverley seems to have decided on the 4-2-3-1 formation of late, and will have leading scorer Vakoun Bayo available after suspension. They like to retain possession with a precise style, building up down each flank.
Matt Bloomfield is yet to taste victory after swapping a League One promotion race with Wycombe for a relegation battle with Luton. After initially straying away, he has gone back to the 3-5-2 which has characterised Luton over the last couple of years.
Most of their threat comes from attacking set pieces, with centre back Mark McGuiness providing an aerial threat, as well as strikers Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo.
