Two relegation threatened clubs at different ends of the pyramid meet at Molineux on Saturday afternoon. Wolves join the competition at the 3rd round stage, hoping to mount a credible cup run.

Shrewsbury secured passage to the 3rd round after overcoming National League North side South Shields, and National League Sutton United in extra-time, they are now rewarded with a tie at a Premier League ground.

📈 Wolves v Shrewsbury Form & Stats

It’s been a miserable campaign for Wolves, they currently sit 20th in the league, taking just seven points from 21 games, relegation looks all but sealed. However, a slight resurgence over the last couple of weeks has seen them take five points in their last three games, one a resounding 3-0 win at home to West Ham, and credible draws away to Man United and Everton.

Prior to the 30th December, Wolves had managed a whopping 16 defeats and just two draws, sparking realistic fears about accumulating the lowest Premier League points tally on record, set by Derby after picking up 11 points in the 2007/08 season.

An FA Cup away day at a Premier League ground may serve as a welcome distraction for Shrewsbury, they’re in the thick of a relegation dogfight, fighting to keep their football league status. Shrewsbury sit in 22nd, just two points above the dreaded drop zone.

Things had looked more positive for Shrewsbury up until mid-November, but a return of just three points from their last eight games has seen them nosedive down the league. They remain winless over those eight games, scoring just the seven goals and conceding 16 goals. More alarmingly for the Shrews, they’ve now lost their last four consecutive games and confidence looks to be at rock bottom.
