Wrexham host Ipswich for a Friday night FA Cup 4th round tie under the lights, in a clash between the sides that currently sit 6th and 3rd in the Championship.
The sides have met already in the league this season, with a 0-0 draw back in November at Portman Road being a game that Ipswich dominated and should have taken the victory.
Juggling a cup run with promotion ambitions is tricky, but these two may just have the squads to cope.

📈 Wrexham v Ipswich Form & Stats
The two sides had drastically different routes in their seasonal FA Cup bows to get here. For Wrexham, it was a similar big Friday night game that developed into a see-saw affair with Premier League side Nottingham Forest, a game which they led 3-1 with 15 minutes to go until a late comeback forced extra time and ultimately a dramatic penalty shootout that the Championship side triumphed in, 4-3. Contrast that with Ipswich’s routine win at home to Blackpool, where they were never threatened and dominated the game, winning 2-1 and only conceding a token consolation deep into second-half injury time.
It is Ipswich who have a narrow edge in their recent league form, winning three of their last five, with strong wins and performances over Bristol City and Derby only being dampened by a defeat away at a recently more resurgent Sheffield United. Their underlying data is just as strong and solidifies their place as a live contender for the automatic promotion spots, with their game in hand meaning a win in that fixture would see them just two points off the top two.
Wrexham’s recent games have been more of a mixed bag. There was the dramatic win late on at Loftus Road and a drab victory at Hillsborough, bookended by defeats to Norwich and Millwall. Despite those defeats, the performances were encouraging from Phil Parkinson’s men, dominating the ball and the shot counts but just failing to convert those into a win. Nevertheless, they do sit in the top 6 as things stand (albeit only on goal difference) and are well in the hunt for an unprecedented 4th successive promotion.
📔 Wrexham v Ipswich Formation & Team News
It is hard to get a strong gauge on who will feature for both teams in this clash, as on the one hand, there is a strong focus on the league in an ever-competitive Championship season, whilst on the other, both coaches went fairly strongly in the last round. What we do know is it will probably see a 3-4-2-1 up against a 4-2-3-1, with Wrexham looking to congest the middle and Ipswich happy to stretch the pitch and get the ball to their talented wide forwards
Wrexham could rotate their front three (arguably their deepest area of the squad), with Sam Smith and Josh Windass possible replacements for Kieffer Moore or Ollie Rathbone. Wing back Liberato Cacace is also highly unlikely to play after injury issues vs Millwall, meaning Ryan Longman may have to come in down the left-hand side. There is a slim chance Parkinson also uses this game to rotate keepers, with the recently fit again Danny Ward back to compete with Arthur Okonkwo
For Ipswich, in-form new signing Anis Mehmeti is cup-tied, and Marcelino Nunez is still very much an injury doubt, but their squad depth means there could be chances for several fringe players. These include loanee Dan Neil from Sunderland, who may play a deeper midfield role next to Jack Taylor, forward Chuba Akpom (who started in the last round of the cup), and defender Jacob Greaves, who may well step in again for Dara O’Shea in the heart of defence.
