With Belgium looking hot favourites to win Group E, they could be set for a deep run in Germany, making their players solid targets in the golden boot or player of the tournament markets. Here at Andy’s Bet Club we have examined the runners and riders in these markets in our Players to Watch Out For article.
Belgium cruised through their qualifying campaign, as they have done for much of the last decade when it comes to qualification for major tournaments. They were one of the first three nations to book their place in Germany, qualifying from Group F in October.
The Red Devils went unbeaten in what could have been a tricky group containing both Austria and Sweden, and ultimately topped the group by a point over Austria.
Up against Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine in their group here, we expect Belgium to comfortably qualify for the knockout stages, reflected in their price of 1.40 to win the group. None of the three sides in this group even crack the top-20 of the FIFA World Rankings, whilst Domenico Tedesco’s side currently sit third, behind only France and Argentina.
With the winner of Group E slated to face a third-placed side in the groups, Belgium look well-placed for a run to at least the quarter-finals, which will likely be a matchup against France, who are favourites to win Group D. A tough game for any side, that could be the extent of their run here, but the Red Devils can still be backed to reach the quarter-finals at 1.73.
Another market to examine is the Golden Boot, which could still come into play even if Belgium do bow out at the quarter-final stage, thanks to their friendly draw in the group stage. Romelu Lukaku was far and away the top scorer in qualifying, bagging 14 goals from just eight games, four clear of Cristiano Ronaldo who hit 10.
The Roma striker scored in seven of Belgium’s eight matches at a rate of 2.13 goals per 90 across the entire qualifying campaign. He can be backed to win the golden boot here at 26.0.
