Gloucester City v Blyth Spartans
Gloucester head into this fixture only a point outside of play-off positions with Chorley occupying the position they’d be looking to get themselves into. Chorley face Boston this weekend, which is certainly a winnable game for them although it illustrates how neither team can afford to drop points in their respective fixtures. The home side have had mediocre form recently, being unbeaten in 5 although with only one win. However, I expect them to make it two wins in a row here. The importance of the fixture alongside the flaws of the opponent should open this up to be a comfortable win for Gloucester. It is no secret that Blyth have struggled defensively this season, I expect the league’s 2nd top scorer Matt McClure to take advantage of this.
Blyth currently sit 23rd in the league, with only 4 wins in 24 games. Their last league win came on the 5th November, at home to 24th placed Telford (the only team lower than them in the league.) Whilst they seriously need to pick up on form, I do not see it starting here. Gloucester need the win to stay in the battle for a play-off position and continue what could be a good run of form – games like this define their consistency and mentality. They also have one of the best goalscorers in the league running at the Blyth defence, he will certainly cause a range of issues.
King’s Lynn Town v Telford United
After a muddle of disarranged fixtures, King’s Lynn have found themselves back on top of the table after having caught up on games in hand. They now sit on level points with AFC Fylde, with a +4 goal difference over them – every game is a must win. Gold Omotayo has been their most prolific goalscorer so far, alongside Theo Widdrington and Jordan Ponticelli who have contributed wholly to their title campaign. I expect players like these to be too much for the Telford defence to deal with.
Having a look at the opposition, they currently sit bottom of the league with a mere 3 wins in 26 games. Whilst the 8 draws they have had may be deemed unlucky, I expect a team that are top of the league, with a lack of safety to absolutely tear through these. King’s Lynn may have proven themselves inconsistent at times although this one gives them the opportunity to demonstrate to other promotion contenders the sort of mentality they have in these games. They’ll have the home advantage in front of a fairly large crowd that will certainly be invested in the game with Fylde chasing them on goal difference.
I believe they should be winning this one by several goals. They’ve scored 43 goals this season and conceded 22, compared to the 19 Telford have scored and 43 they have conceded. Telford’s defensive flaws should certainly be exploited on several occasions and as they have proven already this season – King’s Lynn are not safe with a small one goal lead.
Chester FC v Peterborough Sports
Both teams head into this fixture on the back of some poor form that they’ll be looking to fix up quickly in order to keep a respectable position in the table. Chester currently sit in 6th place, although are 5 games without a win. Alternatively, Peterborough have won one game in their last six. However, something I believe should be occurring here is both teams managing to get onto the scoresheet.
Chester have had both teams scoring in their last three games, with a mix of late winners and equalisers. This will certainly be enhanced with both teams knowing that they can come away with points. Chester have the better team on paper and have one of the strongest home crowds in the league therefore if they do go 1-0 down you can expect a lot of momentum to go into getting level. Kurt Willoughby has been outstanding so far this season and I expect him to cause a load of problems in a game like this where Peterborough have shown their defensive flaws in previous weeks.
Peterborough should be equally hungry in this fixture. They’re in desperate need of points and will be aware that Chester are on poor form at the moment. Despite being 6th in the league, they’re 12th on home form this season – a statistic they will not be proud of. In a similar manner to Chester, Peterborough have had both teams scoring in their last three games.
With this fixture seeing teams on even form face each other, you can expect both teams to score. Both sides have respectively strong sides with a range of goalscorers such as Willoughby, Coulson and Nicholson. They’re both capable of getting the points although recent form shows that whilst either side can take a lead, they’ll both struggle to keep it.
