I think there’s value in betting on Group F being the highest-scoring group at 5/1 with bet365.
Group F contains Portugal, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Georgia. Portugal scored the most goals in qualifying, while Georgia conceded the most (out of all the qualified nations).
Looking back at EURO 2020, the highest-scoring group had 20 goals, and the lowest had 10 goals. The average was 15.7 goals.
For Group F to be the highest-scoring group, we likely need at least 18 goals to have a chance.
Let’s look at each nation.
🇵🇹 Portugal
Portugal scored 36 goals in their 10 qualifying matches. If you remove the bottom seed (Liechtenstein), they scored 30 goals in eight matches, averaging 3.75 goals per game.
Portugal beat 4th seed Luxembourg 9-0 and 6-0. Georgia was the 4th seed in Group A.
Portugal had the highest xG, most shots, most shots on target, and most touches in the opposition box among all nations during qualifying.
At the time of writing, they’ve played three warm-up friendlies for EURO 2024, beating Sweden 5-2, losing to Slovenia 2-0, and beating Finland 4-2.
Expect goals from Portugal in the group stage, and lots of them.
🇬🇪 Georgia
Georgia finished 4th in a group of five, losing four out of eight matches and conceding 18 goals.
Georgia qualified via the Nations League path, beating Luxembourg 2-0 and then Greece on penalties.
Results included losing 7-1 at home to Spain, 3-1 away to Spain, drawing 2-2 at home to Scotland, and losing 2-0 away to Scotland.
Against other nations competing at EURO 2024, that’s an average of 4.5 goals per game.
What I like about Georgia for goals is that, while they concede a lot, they are more than capable of scoring against stronger nations.
They averaged 2.25 goals conceded per game but also averaged 1.5 goals scored per game.
Kvaratskhelia will likely be Georgia’s most significant attacking threat; he managed the 4th most shots out of any player during qualification.
🇹🇷 Turkey
Turkey matches averaged 2.63 goals per game during qualification They scored an average of 1.75 goals per game and conceded 0.88 per game. Only one of their matches had under 1.5 goals, a 1-0 win away to Croatia.
One notable result was their 3-2 victory over 4th seed Latvia. The Latvians only scored five goals in the entire group, two of those in one match against Turkey.
While they conceded seven goals in the eight matches, their xGA was actually 9.37, suggesting they were fortunate not to concede at least another two goals.
There have been some mixed results in friendlies. Turkey beat Germany 3-2 last November and have since lost 1-0 to Hungary, 6-1 away to Austria, and most recently drawn 0-0 with Italy.
🇨🇿 Czech Republic
Czech Republic matches averaged 2.25 goals per game during qualifying.
Looking at their xG, they were the 2nd biggest underperformers, converting 0.33 fewer goals per game than they should have.
Main striker Patrick Schick missed most of the qualifying but is now back fit. He scored seven goals in only 12 starts for Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Schick was also the joint top goalscorer at EURO 2020 with five goals. Ronaldo edged him for the Golden Boot because he had an assist.
At the time of writing, the Czech Republic has played two warm-up friendlies for EURO 2024, beating Norway 2-1 and Armenia 2-1.
Considering Group F has the joint highest odds to be the highest-scoring group, there is value in betting at 5/1.
During qualifiers, the combined Group F teams scored 74 goals and conceded 33.
This is the 2nd highest number of goals scored and the highest number of goals conceded among the groups at EURO 2024.
