Switzerland v Italy Best Bets
➡️ Switzerland (+0.25) Asian Handicap @ 1.86 on bet365
➡️ Over 4.5 cards @ 1.83 on Paddy Power
Although Italy have had the upper hand over the Swiss in recent encounters, Switzerland have looked the sharper of the two sides in the group stage. Granted, Italy’s group has been tough, with Croatia and Spain to contend with. However, the Swiss put on an exceptional performance against Hungary in the opening game and were able to hold the Germans to a draw to come through the group stage unbeaten.
The knockout stage is usually comprised of close encounters and the odds on the game being a draw at 2.9 is lower than you would expect for a similar encounter in the group stage. On current form, my main pick would be Switzerland +0.25 Asian Handicap at 1.86 with bet365. This selection means that if Switzerland win in normal time we win, if it’s a draw we land a half win (half our stake is settled as a winner and the other half refunded), and if Italy win in normal time the bet would lose.
Although Italy could well win the encounter, we think they might struggle to win this in regular time and the Swiss are perhaps being underestimated due to the glamour and history of the Azzurri in tournament football.
Polish referee, Szymon Marciniak, is taking charge of the game. He averages 4.06 cards per game across his 2500-game career. However, he is no stranger to high profile games, having refereed the World Cup Final in 2022, where eight yellow cards were shown. Last year he gave out nine yellow cards in a game between Paris St Germain and Newcastle and eight between Real Madrid and Chelsea in 2022.
The two sides’ matches averaged 4.2 total cards per game over their last ten. Switzerland have picked up two or more cards in nine of those games and Italy have in seven of them.
The line is set high but with the jeopardy of the knockout round, we would reasonably assume an uptick in what is going to be a close match. Our second bet is therefore over 4.5 total cards at 1.83.

📊 Switzerland Form and Stats
Looking at the Euros so far, Switzerland rank quite highly on some of the metrics. They’ve been caught offside nine times, the joint-highest total along with Hungary. Their five goals in the tournament so far is the joint third-highest total shared with Turkey, Spain, and Portugal.
After an impressive opening game win against Hungary, they were able to pick up two more draws and came through the group stage unbeaten. This extended their unbeaten run to seven games and they’ve lost just once in 17 games, a run stretching back to their elimination at the last World Cup.
📊 Italy Form and Stats
Italy finished off Group B in dramatic style, with a late goal against Croatia securing a second-place finish. Although they are fourth at the tournament for passes completed, their possession hasn’t led to a host of opportunities.
Interestingly, they are also the third-most fouled team at the Euros but have committed the fifth-least fouls themselves. They had one shot on target against Spain and three against Croatia. The late goal against the Croats prevented what would have been a third defeat in ten games for this Italian side.
Nevertheless, they have won just six of their last ten games and are still struggling to find a tune from their first-choice strikeforce. Their combined xG across their three matches sits at just 3.08.
⚔️ Switzerland v Italy Head-to-Head
The two sides have met 60 times, with Switzerland winning just 7 of their encounters. It has not all gone Italy’s way though either, with 29 Italian wins and 24 draws. However, the Swiss have not beaten Italy since 1993. They played out two draws in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and met in the group stage at the last Euros, with Italy running out 3-0 winners en route to picking up the trophy.
