Crystal Palace v Millwall
📅
Kick Off: Saturday 1st March at 12:15
🏆
Competition: FA Cup
Saturday lunchtime’s FA Cup action comes in the way of a London derby between Crystal Palace and Millwall.
It’ll be the first time this season that Millwall have faced Premier League opposition, having avoided top-tier clubs in earlier rounds of both this competition and the Carabao Cup.
Crystal Palace dealt with Championship opposition in Norwich and QPR in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup, and have already routinely beaten League One and Two opponents Stockport and Doncaster in the FA Cup.
⭐ Crystal Palace v Millwall Best Bet
Since beating Leeds to reach the 5th Round, Millwall’s run of results has been mixed. They lost 5-1 to relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle and drew 1-1 with both West Brom and Preston before beating Derby 1-0.
Crystal Palace are coming into the game with their tails up. The Eagles have a much stronger away record in the Premier League than they do at home but their 4-1 win at Selhurst Park v Aston Villa on Tuesday night was 1 of the best performances of the season, and may have gone under the radar with it being hidden amongst a batch of Tuesday 7.30 pm kick offs.
The Villa win came off the back of another great display when Palace beat Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage. Oliver Glasner has his team playing with a vibrancy and confidence that can see them having a strong end of season.
A home-tie v Millwall presents a great opportunity for Palace to make the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, and we expect them to approach the game with a vigour that can see them cover the 1-goal handicap (win by 2 goals or more).
🟢 Crystal Palace v Millwall #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
Palace’s French forward, Jean-Phillipe Mateta, is averaging 1.9 shots per 90 across all competitions this season with a 45% on target ratio.
Palace have been playing with an attacking edge in recent weeks, with Mateta scoring 4 goals in his last 5 matches. He finished with an xG of 1.46 v Manchester United, 0.35 v Doncaster, 0.42 v Everton, 0.21 v Fulham and 0.30 v Aston Villa.
Eberechi Eze is the only Crystal Palace player that beats Mateta for shot volume, but Eze’s on target ratio is much lower than Mateta’s at 27%.

🔍 Crystal Palace v Millwall Players to Watch
🔴 Daniel Munoz
Right wing back Daniel Munoz is 1 of the most enjoyable players in his position to watch in the Premier League. He provides a great mix of distance covered, tackles, goals and assists.
Munoz’s threat has turned into goal contributions in recent matches. In his last 6 games, he managed an assist v Brentford plus 0.04 xG, another assist v Manchester United plus 0.28 xG, a goal from 0.82 xG v Doncaster, 0.2 xG v Everton, a goal from 0.16 xG v Fulham and an assist plus 0.3 xG v Aston Villa.
In all competitions this season, Munoz has 4 goals and 5 assists.
🔴 Eberechi Eze
With new England manager Thomas Tuchel watching from the stands, Crystal Palace’s England trio of Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze showcased a scintillating performance v Aston Villa on Tuesday night.
Eze’s performance was in line with what he’s been producing in recent weeks – lots of direct running and shots at goal. Eze is averaging 3.4 shots per game in the Premier League this season, with his shot numbers reading 6-5-3-2-2-4-2-6-4-0-3-2-1-3-6-4-1-2-5-0-4-4-4.
Millwall have been operating with Tristan Crama at right back since he signed from Brentford in January, but he is cup-tied after featuring in the competition for Exeter when on loan at the beginning of the season. It could mean Wes Harding is drafted in from the cold to try and contend with Eze.

💻 Crystal Palace v Millwall Form and Tactics
Crystal Palace come into the fixture off the back of 2 outstanding Premier League performances where Fulham and Aston Villa haven’t been able to deal with their counter-attacking threat.
From 39% possession v Fulham, Palace won the game 2-0. They won the xG battle 1.04-0.20 and prevented Fulham from having a shot on target. They won 4-1 v Villa, with the xG numbers reading 2.57-0.64. Palace had 16 shots to Villa’s 5.
Crystal Palace are 5th in the Premier League 5-game form table coming into the fixture. This will be their 3rd FA Cup opponents from a lower division, having beaten Stockport and Doncaster to reach this round.
Palace usually prefer to play in transitions in the Premier League, but they coped perfectly fine in possession-heavy performances in the previous rounds of the competition. In the 4th Round, they created 2.56 xG and had 60% possession v Doncaster, and in the 3rd Round, they created 1.71 xG from 75% possession v Stockport.
Millwall are placed in mid table of the Championship and have a remote chance of making the play-offs, but they’ve a 6-point gap to breach between themselves and Blackburn and would need to bunny-hop over Coventry, Bristol City, Watford, Norwich and Middlesbrough.
Millwall are 10th in the 5-game form table, having taken 8 points from their last possible 15 in the Championship. Like their Premier League counterparts, Millwall are comfortable without the ball. The Lions average 43% in Championship matches this season.
Millwall beat Dagenham & Redbridge and Leeds to reach the 5th Round.
