4 Selections @ 4.33

Declan Rice to have 2+ Shots @ 1.90

Declan Rice is a player who really should be reaching higher goal tallies for his club and country.

He’s netted just five goals across his 66 caps and 16 goals for Arsenal across his 106 appearances for the Gunners, but he is a player capable of reaching double digits consistently and can act as an effective threat for England from deep in the absence of Jude Bellingham.

Rice has had four shots across his three Premier League appearances so far this season (1.37 per 90). He averaged 1.52 shots per 90 in the Premier League last campaign with this metric rising slightly to 1.61 shots per 90 in the Champions League.

We can expect an increase in those averages here when considering the quality of opponents that Rice will be lining up against. England had 20 shots in their 1-0 win over Andorra when they faced them away from home recently, Rice didn’t start the game but Bellingham had three shots.

Andorra are going to sit in a low block for the majority of the game, employing the same tactics they used when England visited Andorra which were pretty effective in the first half. This should give Rice space on the edge of the area to get shots away.

Dan Burn to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.57

Frustrated is a fitting word to describe England’s performance against Andorra in the last international break. England only scored one goal from their 20 shots in the game, and committed eight fouls with Burn being responsible for two of these.

Tuchel really likes Burn, I think it’s because of the threat he offers the side at set pieces with England constantly looking for the giant at every corner they have when he is in the side.

I’m not sure how Burn would cope with some of the quicker and more mobile forwards in the international game, but he’s more than capable of marshalling Andorra’s frontline.

Burn will be in a direct duel with what should be a front two for Andorra, the away side will look to be quite direct into these frontmen which should result in Burn having to contest duels.

He will be England’s last line of defence, as they’ll have no issues in pushing high up the pitch against a side they are ranked 170 places higher than.

Joan Cervos to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.22

An angle which is always worth keeping an eye on in games where there is a bit of a mismatch in quality between two sides, is backing the striker of the side that will sit in a low block to commit a foul, or multiple fouls.

Andorra committed 13 fouls in their 1-0 defeat against England when the sides faced off a few months ago, with the striker on that day in Ricard Fernandez committing two fouls, and winning three fouls. These situations develop as Andorra will send the ball long to try and relieve pressure, leaving the strikers to chase dead ends and commit fouls as they try and get their side some sort of foothold in the game.

Cervos will have his work cut out for him here up against the 6’7 frame of Dan Burn who committed two fouls in England’s 1-0 victory over Andorra. Cervos is likely to play in a front two here with Andorra lining up in a 5-3-2 shape in their 3-0 defeat to Serbia last time out.

Over 3.5 Goals @ 1.33

I expect this selection to be covered by England on their own, but seeing as 4+ England goals is only a smidge higher, I think it’s worth taking the Over 3.5 goals in the slight off chance that Andorra nick a goal from somewhere.

England must show a bit more under Thomas Tuchel in my opinion. It’s early days, but I've not been captured or convinced by the quality of England’s performances so far, with their away performance against Andorra a perfect example of the issues currently facing the Three Lions.

This should prompt England to press home any advantage that they get here and come away winners by a convincing scoreline. England saw 4+ goals last time out as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Senegal at Wembley.

3 Selections @ 26.00

Harry Kane to Score First @ 3.10

Harry Kane scored the only goal in England’s victory over Andorra when they made the trip to face the lowest ranked side in the group. It was a poor performance in truth, but Kane got his obligatory goal and has scored four of England’s seven goals under Tuchel so far - netting in every game.

Kane has a strong relationship with Tuchel from their time together at Bayern Munich, Tuchel was in charge for Kane’s best scoring season to date as he notched 44 goals across his 45 appearances for Bayern Munich during the 23/24 season.

Kane is often England’s most reliable player in front of goal, netting 73 goals across his 107 caps for the Three Lions. He is on penalties for England which can help him find the back of the net first of any England player here.

Ricard Fernandez to be Shown a Card @ 4.50

As I touched on briefly in the Bet Builder, the Andorran forwards are going to have their work cut out here, up against an England side that will dominate the ball and play the majority of the game in Andorra’s half.

Fernandez had five foul involvements in England’s 1-0 win over Andorra in the last international break, and was pretty fortunate to avoid a booking with two of these foul involvements being fouls committed.

Fernandez isn’t going to see much of the ball at all here, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was amongst the players with the fewest touches in the game - but this situation can breed real frustration in a centre forward, which he may look to take out on a member of England’s backline.

Dan Burn to have 2+ Shots @ 2.20

There aren’t many instances where I’d back a centre back for 2+ shots, but this is a unique situation in which England should get plenty of corners and other set piece situations, with the early signs being that Tuchel wants his side to target Burn from these situations.

Burn had three of England’s 12 shots in their 2-0 win over Albania, which was Tuchel’s first game in charge. Burn was sought out at every set piece situation, and England only had four corners in that game. I’d expect that tally to increase against a side like Andorra, heightening the chances of Burn getting a few shots away here.

He had one shot in England’s 1-0 win over Andorra away from home and I’m confident of his chances of adding to that tally here.

📈 England v Andorra Form & Tactics

There were some surprising selections in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad for the qualifying games against Andorra and Serbia.

I was really happy to see Elliot Anderson earn a call up after his impressive performances for Nottingham Forest last season and the U21s over the summer. England have long been crying out for a player of his profile with Anderson potentially being the perfect blend to match the qualities of Bellingham and Rice.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has earned himself a call up for the first time in six years, which shows that Tuchel isn’t afraid to give chances to some of the more fringe players in the England set up as the Three Lions prepare for the World Cup next year.

Jordan Henderson is still in the squad, I’ve stopped trying to figure out why he keeps getting a spot with the array of talent that England have in the middle of the park - I would have given a spot to Harvey Elliott after he carried the U21s to the European Championship trophy over the summer.

England have been steady without being spectacular under Thomas Tuchel so far. They’ve won all three of their qualifying matches against Albania, Latvia and Andorra without conceding a goal - but a 3-1 defeat to Senegal in a friendly showcased the work that still needs to be done with this England side, to ensure that they are a competitive force at the World Cup next year.

Southgate left behind a solid reputation in these qualifiers, to the point where many just expect England to coast through without even a scratch to the showpiece event next year. Tuchel won’t be judged on these qualifiers, and he still has plenty of work to do to ensure that England enter the major tournament next summer with the capacity to win it.

Andorra rank 174th in the FIFA World Rankings, 170 places lower than their opponents here. They did manage to limit England to just one goal in the meeting between the sides in the last international break. That performance was heavily criticised by England fans, who felt their side should have come away with a more convincing win.

Andorra’s threat will be limited to a few fleeting moments on the break here, but they will persist with their stubborn low block which was pretty effective against England in the most recent head to head meeting.

Andorra only had 17% of the ball in that 1-0 defeat to England, with this share of possession returning four shots in total. Andorra have lost all four of their qualifying matches so far without even scoring a goal, conceding eight goals across these games.

Mohamed Al-Emara:

  • This game isn’t likely to have loads of cards, there were zero yellow cards produced when England travelled to Andorra earlier in the year.

  • Fouls are still worth keeping an eye on, there were 21 fouls committed between the sides in that victory England managed in Andorra.
