Following their shock defeat against Ireland last time out, Portugal host Armenia at the Dragao Stadium in their final Group F match on Sunday afternoon, with automatic qualification to the World Cup not yet secured.

However, they will fancy their chances of overcoming Armenia, who sit bottom of the group with just three points, out of contention to finish in the top two.

Over 5.5 Portugal Corners

Armenia skipper Tigran Barseghyan will be suspended for this clash after receiving a red card against Ireland. Considering Armenia have scored just twice in the group so far, and will be without their main attacking threat against the top team Portugal, Diogo Costa could be in for a quiet night.

Without Barseghyan, Armenia mustered up just six attempts worth 0.46xG and were barely able to lay a glove on Hungary last time out. Armenia have struggled to progress the ball out of their own half in those games, and against a team as strong as Portugal at retaining possession, it could be one-way traffic on Sunday afternoon.

Portugal may have been dealt defeat against Ireland last time out, but landed this selection with ease, racking up nine corners. In their World Cup qualifying group, the Selecao are averaging 6.6 corners per game.

Portugal to have 8+ Shots on Target

After a flawless start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, with three wins from three, Portugal have faltered in their last two games. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Hungary in October, but that was an unfortunate result - Dominik Szoboszlai scored in the 91st minute.

At the Aviva Stadium last time out, Portugal racked up 2.66xG to no avail, as Caoimhin Kelleher was a standout performer again, registering five saves. Both of Ireland’s goals came in the first-half, but the visitors had 77% possession, and racked up 16 shots. They were largely in control of proceedings before Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off, but were clinically hit on the break by the hosts.

Ronaldo will be a notable absentee on Sunday afternoon, but the Selecao still have plenty of options - Rafael Leao and Goncalo Ramos will be pushing to lead the line for their national side.

📈 Portugal v Armenia Form & Stats

Since prevailing in the Nations League final against Spain, Portugal have been a tough side to beat, and they have gathered serious momentum over the last few months.

They kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with three consecutive wins, putting them in a prime position to secure top spot. Although they dropped points in their last two outings, Portugal were still the better side in both matches. They will have to be more clinical for this clash, with World Cup qualification not yet a certainty.

Given that it finished 5-0 when these sides last met back in September, Portugal will be confident heading into this clash in Porto against bottom of the table Armenia.

After scraping a second-place finish in their Nations League group, Armenia were drawn to face Georgia in their hopes of progressing to League B. However, they were comprehensively dealt with, losing 9-1 on aggregate.

Since then. they have won just one of their eight matches, shipping an alarming 18 goals in that time. They have been left wanting at the back, which does not bode well for them against a side as strong as Portugal.
