Even with rotation, and Basel’s good home returns so far in Europe, I can’t look past The Villains here. Emery is an absolute expert in this competition and a huge part of that is how he manages his squad. Villa have excellent depth and they’re a very tight knit group, who all seem content so far to play the parts that they’re playing.

Their strong run of form will be giving them plenty confidence, even more so with the weekend victory over Arsenal. Basel have been sub-par in the league, failing to keep pace with a much smaller side in the form of Thun, and they’ve come up short in three of their five European games so far.

Both of Basel’s home games in Europe so far have seen 10 or more corners, with a total of 23 taken in the two matches. Domestically, their home matches have averaged 10.86 corners, comfortably above the line we need here.

As for Villa, corners have been aplenty for them as well. Domestically, they've averaged 10.07 corners per match. On the road in Europe, each of their games has seen at least nine corners, and they’ve seen 20 taken in their two trips thus far. Look for there to be nine or more corners here.

One man who benefits from the rotation is the Dutch forward. He’s netted three times in the Europa League so far, including a brace in the last match against Young Boys.

He’s shown serious signs of being a player who could have a big impact for Villa, but this stage remains his best chance of getting more minutes in the league, and he’ll be hungry to impress as always. He’s had seven shots on target across those five matches and has landed this selection in each of the matches he’s started.

Even domestically, when he’s played, his numbers are solid. He’s averaged 1.26 SoT per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

For club and country, he’s hit the target in nine of 12 outings where he has started the match.

Onana seems to be one of the few who doesn’t get rotated in and out as much. He’s an excellent athlete and holds down his spot at the base of the Villa midfield. Maybe more associated with committing fouls, the big Belgian is also pretty adept at drawing them from his opponents. He’s drawn an average of 1.35 fouls per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season.

He’s drawn four fouls across his three Europa League appearances, with this selection landing in two of the three games. Basel’s midfield are pretty physical, notably Metinho who is averaging 1.70 fouls per 90 minutes, so Onana looks a good pick to be brought down here.
