Belgium make the long-distance trip to Kazakhstan on Saturday, with a slender one-point at the top of Group J.

With a game in hand over North Macedonia, the Belgians find themselves in a great position to secure top spot and automatic qualification to the World Cup, and victory here will officially guarantee that.

Belgium (-1) Handicap

Rudi Garcia’s tenure as Belgium manager got off to a rocky start, as they were beaten 3-1 by Ukraine in the first leg of the Nations League playoffs, but, they bounced back in the return leg with a convincing 3-0 victory to retain their spot in League A.

Since then, Belgium have looked back to their best, and come into this clash on a seven game unbeaten streak. Their biggest victory in that stretch came against Kazakhstan in Anderlecht, as Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku both bagged braces to hand Belgium a 6-0 win. Although De Bruyne is ruled out of this clash through injury, the Red Devils still have plenty of options going forward, and goals shouldn’t be an issue.

Belgium have scored 16 goals in four games this season, while also keeping three clean sheets. They have been effective at both ends of the field, which makes them a real force to be reckoned with.

Over 7.5 Corners

Sitting fourth in the group with no chance of qualifying for the World Cup, Kazakhstan have little to play for here, apart from personal pride. They could play with a bit more freedom here in front of a home support, and aim to provide some entertainment.

Kazakhstan have performed better on home turf so far, although results don’t necessarily reflect that. Against both North Macedonia and Wales, Kazakhstan accrued six corners in both of those respective games, posing some threat on the break. Over 7.5 corners has landed in five of their seven group stage matches in total.

It also landed in the reverse fixture against Belgium, as the hosts contributed 11 corners alone in Anderlecht. The Belgians are averaging 9.33 corners alone in their World Cup qualifying group so far, with this selection landing with ease in all six of their games.

📈 Kazakhstan v Belgium Form & Stats

While Belgium did drop points against North Macedonia during the October break, it is worth mentioning how unfortunate they were - the hosts racked up a total of 25 shots worth 3.2xG, but somehow failed to score. The visitors managed just three shots in return, with none of those hitting the target. Considering North Macedonia are currently Belgium’s closest competitors to top spot in Group J, it highlights the gulf in quality between the Red Devils and the rest of the group.

Prior to that game, Belgium secured back-to-back 6-0 victories against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan, respectively, in September. Charles De Ketelaere featured in a more advanced centre forward role against Kazakhstan with Romelu Lukaku out, but he excelled and provided two assists - he looks set to lead the line for Belgium once more this weekend.

Kazakhstan have seven points to their name, but six of those came against European minnows Liechtenstein, who sit bottom of the group, with zero points and zero goals scored after six matches. Prior to their World Cup qualifying campaign, Kazakhstan finished rock bottom of their Nations League group alongside Slovenia, Austria and Norway, failing to score in any of their six matches.
