Kevin De Bruyne to Score Anytime

Kevin De Bruyne scored in Belgium’s 6-0 rout of Lichtenstein last time out, securing us a winner from the two goalscorers I backed when Belgium faced off against the lowest ranked side in the group.

I’m happy to back him to score again here, De Bruyne also found the back of the net against Wales in Belgium’s 4-3 win over their closest challenges in Group J. That goal was a crucial one as well, it secured Belgium’s victory after Wales mounted a comeback in Brussels.

His performances in the recent qualifying games would suggest that he’s still a crucial part of this Belgian side, one of the few players of Belgium’s ‘golden generation’ that is still standing - and he can help them get over the line here.

Over 0.5 Kazakhstan Goals

I watched Belgium’s 4-3 win over Wales earlier this year and I thought they were extremely lucky. The days of Alderweireld and Vertonghen at the back are long gone, and I’m not entirely convinced by their replacements.

Belgium lined up with a back four of De Cuyper, Theate, Debast and Meunier against Liechtenstein. This back four is vulnerable, Thibaut Courtois in net does improve the quality of the defence substantially, but I’m not convinced that Belgium can be a secure side at the back when they’re up against more competitive sides, as the three goals they conceded against Wales showed.

Kazakhstan aren’t the most prolific scorers in the world with just three goals from their four qualifying matches so far, but I’m backing them to buck the trend and expose the weaknesses which are obvious in the Belgian backline.

Dastan Satpaev is worth keeping an eye on for the away side, the 17 year old will be joining Chelsea in a few years and is tipped to be the most talented player that Kazakhstan has ever produced.

  • Belgium are in a dog fight with Wales and North Macedonia to top Group J, making this a must win game.

  • Kazakhstan have managed to win just one of their four qualifying matches so far.

  • Belgium have been victorious in all four head to head meetings between the sides since 2010.

🔴 Work to do For Rudi Garcia

This Belgian side has all the ingredients to develop into a top international side, but I do think it will take them a few years to get there. Belgium missed their opportunity with their ‘golden generation’ in the World Cup a few years ago, and the change in the squad which has followed has led to some underwhelming displays - including their run in the European Championships last year, which was cut short at the Round of 16 stage.

I think Belgium can learn a lot from Spain’s approach to rebuilding the squad, which La Roja have done expertly since the dismantling of the side that was so dominant in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

The jury is still out on Rudi Garcia, but his position could become untenable if Belgium fail to qualify from this group. The situation is still in their control with Garcia’s side having a game in hand on the likes of Wales and North Macedonia, who have disrupted what many thought would be an easy run of games for Belgium.

There is still plenty of talent in the Belgium squad, despite the issues that they’ve faced over the last few years. Malick Fofana and Jeremy Doku as a duo on the wings is incredibly exciting, with De Bruyne showing he still has the quality to perform at this level in recent qualifiers.

🔵 Difficult Assignment For Kazakhstan

I do think that Kazakhstan will slowly become a more threatening country on the international stage as some of their younger players develop.

The country is mad about football, and they still are in with an opportunity here to qualify for their first ever World Cup, but they will need some results to go their way with Wales, North Macedonia and Belgium setting the standard in Group J.

Kazakhstan are ranked 114th in the world according to the FIFA World Rankings, so they are still quite a way off the standard and quality of the more established sides on the international circuit.

They’re currently in poor run of form, having won just one of their last five matches (v Lichtenstein), but I do think they have players that are worth keeping an eye on.

📊 Belgium v Kazakhstan H2H

The most recent meeting between the sides was back in 2019 and saw Belgium run out 2-0 winners.

Kazakhstan have lost all four of their head-to-head clashes against Belgium since 2010.
