Specialist in Scandinavian & European soccer. I have been in the betting game for nearly 20 years now with a summer focus on the Norwegian & Swedish leagues. With an in-depth knowledge of the region & teams I have been involved in a specialist podcast & more for close to a decade. My favourite types of bets are attacking the goal lines and identifying the tactics & style of each team & manager who can contribute positively. Outside of betting I was once a Sunday League goalkeeper myself. But my boots are now retired and instead prefer to hit up the cricket pitch and golf course in my spare time.

Brann v Molde

🗓️

Kick Off: Thursday 29th May at 17:00

🏆

Competition: Swedish Allsvenskan

  • Brann are unbeaten since the opening day of the season, while Molde have obtained just eight points in eight games

  • Brann have scored two or more goals in seven of their nine Eliteserien fixtures this season

  • Molde have scored the fourth fewest goals of any team in the league so far

Two big teams collide in the city of Bergen this Thursday evening but each appears to be heading in the opposite direction. Brann have kicked on from their second placed finish last year and are unbeaten since the opening day of the season. They are the favourites to win at 1.83.

Molde had a change of manager in the off season but have started slowly, with just two wins in eight games. They are not playing well and everyone is under pressure here. Molde are lacking goals and not looking very defensively sound either. They are as big as 3.90 to win but that actually looks too short when you consider their recent form.

The two teams are in contrasting form and this looks like a great time to be backing Brann to win at 1.83. Molde are in a really bad phase and are a clear fade right now. With Brann having won six of their last eight games and with home advantage, they can get the three points.

Since the opening day of the season, Brann have been in imperious form offensively, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight games. It makes sense to back them in the team total goal market to score over 1.5 goals at 1.72. They have the firepower and Molde have been unconvincing defensively, keeping just two clean sheets.

Aune Heggebo had worked his way to become Brann’s #1 striker. Last season he scored 11 goals and he’s netted five times in nine games in the Eliteserien this term. He scored in the most recent match at the weekend away to Haugesund, too. At odds of 2.50 he looks good value to score anytime.

🔴 Brann Unbeaten Since Opening Day

Brann lost their opening day fixture 0-3 away to Fredrikstad, but have since rebounded going eight games unbeaten with six wins in that period. The only real concern is that they’ve kept just a single clean sheet this season, but their attack force has been firing, netting two or more goals in seven fixtures.

Key attacker Niklas Castro remains injured, but they have been without him for a while now and they seem to be coping given their strong depth in that area of the field. Brann are unbeaten at home, although they have dropped points here against Rosenborg and Sarpsborg recently.

🔵 Molde In A Mess As The Pressure Mounts

Much more was expected from Molde this season. New manager Per Mathis Hogmo came with a stellar track record, most notably winning a surprise Swedish Allsvenskan title with Hacken in 2023. He’s changed the style, system and formation here and it hasn’t worked so far. Hogmo might not have the right type of players to play the football he wants at this club. The pressure is mounting on him.

Molde have only won two out of nine games and have just eight points on the board after eight games played. They are 12th in the Eliteserien table which is far too low for a club of their stature. Their only wins have been against a rotten Haugesund side and newly promoted Bryne. They’ve only kept two clean sheets and are the fourth lowest scoring team in the Eliteserien.

📊 Brann v Molde Head-to-Head Key Stats

Molde won both league meetings last season 2-1 and home and 3-1 at this stadium. They generally have a strong record against Brann, winning six of the last seven competitive contests.

This is a brand new manager matchup though because neither head coach was at their respective clubs in 2024. So any trends, stands and performances from last season probably have less relevance in this instance.
