Bromm v Djurgarden
Kick Off: Thursday 29th May at 17:00
Competition: Swedish Allsvenskan
Djurgården finished 4th last season but have been below expectations so far, sitting 11th.
Over 1.5 goals landed in the last six H2Hs.
Neither team has kept a clean sheet for five league matches.
Brommapojkarna and Djurgården come into this Stockholm derby neck and neck in Allsvenskan, positioning themselves in 12th and 11th. Only one point separates the home team from the relegation zone, while Djurgården are two points ahead.
Both teams are in shaky form, Brommapojkarna having lost their last four games, while Djurgården have only picked up one win in the same stretch, amassing four points.
The match odds reflect their similar run of form and league position, BP (Brommapojkarna) are 2.38 for the win while Djurgården provide value at 2.60, with the draw priced at 2.8.
⭐ Brommapojkarna v Djurgarden Predictions and Best Bets
Despite Djurgården’s strong defensive start to the season, they have now let in 10 goals in their last five matches, only scoring four in the same run of games.
Brommapojkarna, meanwhile, have conceded eight and netted five in the last five. While the attacking performances haven’t been stellar from either side, they tend to concede, having both done so in all of their previous five matches. As such, both teams to score at 1.6 looks a solid bet.
There are uncertainties in both camps, but it feels like Djurgården have more to play for here, needing to work their way up the table before the summer break. As such, the Djurgården and draw double chance at 1.5 looks sharp.
🔴 Brommapojkarna’s Rapid Drop-Off
Brommapojkarna started the season poorly but recovered well, recording three wins in four after two initial losses. This included a scalp against the struggling champions Malmö, taking their chances well and winning 2-1. Since then, however, things have gone awry, losing four on the trot.
For a team which is so reliant on intensity in their play to endanger opponents, hitting them early and exploiting spaces left behind, they have surprisingly dropped off despite no injuries. Where they used to consistently have the most player sprints per game, the recent midweek rounds have taken their toll on the squad.
In fairness, except for Halmstad (13th), the run of games has been difficult, facing exclusively teams currently in the top five, and the performances have actually been surprisingly strong, winning the xG battle against AIK (1.56 – 0.81) and league leaders Mjällby (1.56 – 0.62) without getting on the scoresheet.
🔵 Djurgården’s Post-European Hangover
Djurgården went on a historic European run, reaching the UEFA Conference League semi-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea. This did, however, massively impact their domestic form, struggling with fatigue and having to deal with a host of injuries.
Under new manager Jani Honkavaara, not much has gone right in Allsvenskan. A real struggle for goals, only scoring 0.70 per game from 1.08 xG, combined with a real frailty in defence of late, has meant the expected title challengers find themselves closer to the relegation zone in 11th. The manager initially spoke of high-pressing “heavy metal football” in the mould of Jurgen Klopp, but the lack of fitness has prohibited this.
The lack of a goalscorer has been evident, with new signing Zakaria Sawo nowhere near the required level yet – youth prospect August Priske is the top scorer with two league goals.
Having only played four away games to date, they have actually won two, however, the two most recent ones have been lost to Mjällby (1st) and Elfsborg (3rd), 3-1 and 4-0.
📊 Bromm v Djurgarden Head-to-Head Key Stats
This is the first meeting of the season between these two sides.
Last year, we witnessed two wins for Djurgården, beating Brommapojkarna 5-0 away from home, being sharper in front of goal with the xG battle close at 1.88 – 1.64. In their home game, Djurgården won 2-1 in another close game (1.11 – 0.66 xG), and across both matches, previous star striker Deniz Hümmet was the main difference, getting four goals in total.
Brommapojkarna have only beaten Djurgården once in their last eight competitive meetings, emerging victorious back in September 2018 with a 1-0 scoreline.
The last six head-to-heads have seen at least two goals per game, averaging 3.5 goals in that stretch.
